Hey guys,

I'm currently a freshman at the University of Rochester (NY) and I was wondering which careers are possible with a BS in either mechanical or biomedical engineering.

So I'm trying to decide which I'm going to switch into (originally a Bio major) because I realized that I miss physics (took AP last year as a senior) and I am more math programmed rather than just the memorization of Bio.

I am doing well academically (looking at 4.0 or 3.9 this sem), so it would not be a problem for me to switch into either. Both majors interest me, so I was wondering what I would be able to do after the degree. Thank you!

*PS- Is URoch actually a good school to have an engineering degree from? Or would transferring be a smart idea?

Go with ME. Find an internship/assistantship/hobby that deals with Biomed. eng.

Do well in what you do is more important than the “good” school.
I have no idea/0, how good is UR. Better question is whether you enjoy it there and are you really approaching your learning limits.

Didn’t you investigate U of R when you initially applied? Tsk…tsk…tsk.

Well, you’re in luck because U of R has a very fine reputation. But I doubt that they’ll think kindly of your post. Their Admissions Office will likely be scratching their heads about how you got past the door. LOL.

transfering not really big deal…

there may be better options than URoch in terms of cost of tuition but that’s probably made up for in small class sizes

i agree with poster, go ME, then find internship/research positions in Bio med industry

u’ll have many options your junior year…possibly masters in ME or BME or no masters straight to industry or etc. etc. leave it open and don’t fret too much about it…
