Carleton Class of 2021 RD Discussion Thread

Hey everyone! This thread is for Carleton applicants for the Class of 2021!! Feel free to start sharing with us your story. Let’s get this thread going  So to begin with, I am an international applicant from Egypt with a touch of madness and a love for Chemistry so that’s my major!! What major(s) have you applied for and why?

What a coincidence! I’m from Egypt, too. I’ve applied for physics major. Do you mind sharing your stats? I’ve an SAT of 1440/1600 and an UW GPA of 4, but I’m asking for so much financial aid.

I am really happy to finally find someone in the same boat hahaha!! Sure! ACT 32/36 so 1480 on new SAT. UW GPA of 3.91 and so am I unfortunately. 800 SAT II Chem and 720 SAT Maths I. Where did you go to school?

Finaly seeing someone at Carleton’s page. Thanks for starting this thread. I am an international applicant from China. Carleton is so queit. I’ve got no news and update ever since I submitted my application.

Applicant from FL, USA. 32 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, and an athletic recruit for regular decision.
Hoping for the best

@Kimo212 I go to STEM high school at sixth of October, what about you? Great stats btw! I haven’t taken SAT subject tests.

I went to Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE in Zamalek, but last year I was on a foreign exchange program to study in the US. Now I am living in Qatar (where my family lives) and waiting to hear back from them, quite the ride hahaha. Thank you, yours are great too! My grandparents live in Sixth of October so I know the place well

That’s awesome, best of luck!!

You’re welcome! It’s a similar story here actually. I’ve submitted a couple of emails with attachments but haven’t received responses, but that’s probably because they are very busy with applications. What’s your major & stats?

Hey guys, does it matter what major you apply for? In terms of admission chances?

I’ve heard of Dar El Tarbiah. I guess it’s an SAT test center. Anyway, I wish you good luck! Is carleton your top choice? have you been admitted somewhere else? I’ve been deferred both from Hamilton and Washington&Lee.

I’d guess so depending on how many other applicants are applying to the major. If the major is in very high demand, there may be more competition than if it were in less demand.

Hey guys! From Florida. My unweighted a little lower than I’d like at around 3.6 but is 3.8 this year and last (freshman and sophomore wasnt as good for me but did ok) My scores are A1 tho and my interview went on point. Hope we al get some good news soon!

Thank you, best of luck to you too!

Yes, Carleton & Amherst are my top choices certainly. If I had to pick, it would probably come down to which is more affordable, but Carleton’s vibe and atmosphere REALLY clicked with me so I hope I am up for good news  I haven’t been admitted anywhere yet, and I applied to Hamilton too! What’s your top choice?

Welcome to the thread, and good luck!!

My top choice is Hamilton. I was deferred EDII and wish to hear good news soon (though I don’t think I will). I also applied to Bowdoin, Grinnell, Vassar, Bates, Reed, Haverford, Lafayette, Bucknell, Washington&Lee, and trinity college. I thought they would be matches, but technically they’re reaches because I’m asking for so much aid. And btw you really do have a great chance at Hamilton; there are only two students from Egypt currently attending Hamilton and one of them is graduating this year, so i guess they want an applicant from Egypt.

Hey guys! We should make a Carleton GroupMe! I can create it! Just message me ur email or number! I’m in one for other colleges and everyone was really cool and just as excited/nervous about the admissions process as I am! Also, we talk about other colleges we applied to!

Carleton is one of my top choices so it would be fantastic to talk to others who are just as interested as I am!

Message me if ur interested!

@AbdelHady
As an international student requesting a lot of aid, everything is super hard. If you were domestic, you would get into a lot of these schools. I can relate, because I live in the U.S. but I am a DACA student. You prolly don’t know what that is, but it is sort of an undocumented student, but legal. So some schools like Carleton, Haverford, and Swarthmore consider me domestic, but a majority consider me international. I also need full financial aid, so I am a far reach at W and Lee, Colgate, and Lehigh, even though I am more than academically qualified at these schools.

Something that annoys me about Carleton is that it’s financial aid isn’t as good as Swarthmore, Haverford, Colby, W and Lee, Pomona, and Davidson, even though the academic caliber is the same

@Shabeezy I can totally relate. International student, Asian, Bad GPA and also need a ton of aid. It’s probably the worst possible combination one could ask for :frowning:

Luckily, I got a full-tuition scholarship at Miami Uni so I’m not stressing out too much about my incoming rejections. Let’s hope it all goes well.

PS: I too applied to Colgate, Colby, Davidson and Carleton.
