Carleton Class of 2021 RD Discussion Thread

@nTv187, I have twin DD’s that were accepted - both superscored 35 on ACT, multiple 750-800 SAT tests, and 3.8 UW/ 4.2 W GPA’s if this information helps

@nTv187 I am from Pakistan. SAT 1:1470 (Maths 720 & English 750), SAT 2: English Literature 720, Mathematics 2 740, 3.84/4 UW GPA, 8/450 Class Rank, decent essays I’d say, A*AC in A Levels.

@nTv187 I am from Tunisia. SAT 1400 (math 740 eng : 660) SAT2 : math 2 : 740, french :740. I am in the top 5% of my class of 120. Let me know if there anything else you want to know

Does anyone know how many kellogg international scholars are selected from the carleton class? Or at least tell me where to look… thank you!

Where do you find the financial aid update on the portal? I can’t find a link to it

@Runnergirl1226 should be at the bottom of the acceptance letter

I teach at a university that offers college tuition benefits to my kids wherever they go (I know, it’s very generous, and I’m very grateful). I declared this benefit in all our FA apps, but Carleton is the only school so far to actual spell out that benefit in the FA offer letter – it was really helpful to see it there as part of the package and not have to wonder if it cancels out need-based aid dollar-for-dollar or if the parental contribution calculated by the school already nets out the benefit. Thank you, Carleton!

@Chembiodad @intapplicant123 @Noor230 Thank you all for being so supportive and informative.
I am an international student and I have been waitlisted. Could you please share your Estimated Family Contribution too? I am afraid that me asking for too much fin aid has severely hurt my chance of getting in.

My D: Accepted.
Unweighted GPA 4.00/ weighted according to UC criteria 4.57
ACT: 35 composite
SAT II subject tests: 600 (Spanish) to 800 (Math 2)

Excited and relieved beyond belief since Carleton is her first choice among all LACs and possibly among all colleges. Only problem is money; modest need-based financial aid offered. Have to figure out if we can pay without going into serious debt.

@nTv187 hey, my family contribution will be about 2k or less, i asked for almost full financial aid!

@Noor230 Oh then the rest of your application must be really good. Congratulations! And thank you very much.

@nTv187, no aid requested for my twin DD’s. They both superscored 35 on ACT, had multiple 750-800 SAT Subject tests, 3.8 UW / 4.2 W GPA with 6-8 AP’s each, and then sports and other EC’s.

Thank you so much!

My acceptance letter did not mention anything about financial aid… I applied for financial aid by submitting CSS, and I even e-mailed the financial aid director that I will be applying. I just wanted to make sure, because Carleton website said “All students who apply for financial aid are given an aid package.” Does it mean that I didn’t get qualified for any kind of aid?

Carleton is one of my top schools ( and one of my reaches) but I am worried because I’m not in the top 97-98% of my class like everyone else is here. I am a URM- Puerto Rican, and with a lower income, but my public school doesn’t do ranking. I am in the lower range for sat scores for Carleton (even with studying a ton and getting my sat up A LOT) and a 3.9 UW gpa. I honestly don’t know if I should apply but my good friend/ mentor goes to Carleton and loves it. Do many URM’s ( specifically hispanic students that live in the Pacific NW) apply to Carleton?

IDK but do know there is an outreach program to URMs. Currently it focuses on kids in the Houston area. Apply and see what happens.

is there a specific outreach program?

Good question. It is called Posse. Google the program and “Carleton”. It could be you can opt in. I didn’t think of that.
