Hindoo - I hope you have a chance to see the campus. Of all the colleges we visited in the Midwest, I think Grinnell's was the prettiest but Carleton was also very nice. I ate at Carleton and the food was OK. My daughter is easy to please - likes salads, Chinese and there are inexpensive places to eat in Northfield. We already have the down winter jacket and snowboots so she's ready to go....

I'll be taking my daughter to Carleton in September, so I'll get an up close and personal view of the school. Very much looking forward to it. When my daughter visited last year, it clicked with her immediately and profoundly. To hear her talk, Carleton is utopia, Shangri-la, and Eden all rolled into one. Seriously, she was quite taken with everything, from the fun, friendly students she met to the overall appearance of the campus. To that point, she thought she wanted a school in or near a major metropolitan area. Macalester was originally her top choice and I had to beg her to take a look at Carleton as well since they were only 40 miles apart. Ironic, huh? ... I had also wanted her to consider Grinnell and Kenyon, both impressive schools, but cornfields in Iowa and Ohio had no appeal for her (she said). I guess she prefers cornfields in Minnesota.

tee hee.

My daughter wouldn't set foot in Iowa because of the corn rep and she pinched her nose at Middlebury because of the cow doo. When she realized, after living there awhile, that Carleton's charm included these two former evils, she professed that they didn't bother her at all and never did.

Maize&Blue--That sounds about right! I'm sure my daughter will never remember her former contempt for rural schools! What year is your daughter at Carleton?

Rising senior. The years have flown by.

Scary, isn't it, how time slips away from us? Seems like yesterday that I was dropping her off for her first day of high school. Ahh.
