Carleton RD 2022

Waitlisted, super nice letter though. Congrats to everyone who got in!

@thefirstboss Thanks so much for that truly. Its so crazy competitive its impossible to avoid some rejections and waitlists (this year especially it seems). Best of luck to you and hoping you get many more acceptances thought the rest of the month! <3

@mom2twoteens You can scroll down to the bottom of the page with the admissions letter and there should be a second link called “Financial Aid Award - March 22, 2018”.

I got accepted! I’m not too sure how to read the financial aid information but I’m overjoyed

D was accepted!!! What a great school and great opportunity. Congrats to all accepted and hang in there if WL!

Is it bad there is no link to a “Financial Aid Award” in my son’s acceptance letter?

International student here, rejected.
Not really surprised since I needed a lot of financial aid.
SAT 1400, 3.8/4.0 UW GPA
AAAB A LEVELS SCIENCE
Barely have any extracurricular activities :frowning:

Anyways congrats to all that got accepted!!

Did anyone fill out the accepted student questionnaire that is on the student portal? My daughter is not here to do it now and I am just wondering what it is asking. Thanks

International student, and rejected :frowning: Pretty sure it’s because of the high financial aid that I needed

International. Waitlisted.

International and accepted with an extremely generous financial aid package. Carleton is my top choice for now. Still waiting to hear back from 6 more schools tho

@pcmom1 Don’t worry. It’s not to fill out until you’ve made a college decision. It asks you to rank the things you are looking for in a college and asks how many schools you applied to, how many you were accepted to, where you will be attending, etc.

As for those looking for FA, it’s not in the letter. It’s below the letter under “The Following Letters are Available to this Account.”

And with that… I was accepted! Congrats to all others who were accepted, and for those who weren’t, I wish you the best of luck, and iI have no doubt that you will end up somewhere great!

Also, does anyone have any info on admitted student days? There didn’t seem to be any info on it in the portal.

@takacatboy – I sleuthed and found them on their Carleton calendar: April 12-13 and 19-20. But PLEASE no one buy plane tix until confirmed!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Congrats to you!!

Congratulations everyone! First, my kid was wait-listed last year, wrote a rather passionate essay on their intent to stay on the wait-list, and was accepted one week after commitment day. Needless to say, my kid is a content Carl who just finished second term. We couldn’t be happier with their decision to attend Carleton.
Second, book your hotel for freshman move-in day and parents weekend now. Northfield is a small town with only a handful of hotels from which to choose!

Still super excited for our son’s admission. That said, feeling super cranky this morning. We reached out to the fin aid office because there was no link in the admit letter. They said they need more information. !!! Our son, to the best of our knowledge and his, received absolutely no communication to date from Carleton asking for additional info. Super frustrating. Trying to remain calm and stay positive but feeling more than a little freaked out. On the flip side, there is some comfort this morning in knowing we didn’t make the fatal mistake of not requesting consideration for fin aid. Again, trying to remain positive. It is our son’s top choice and it would absolutely break our hearts to tell him he can’t go because of fin aid gap. (I would insert the fingers crossed emoji here but I can’t figure out how to do it. )

My eldest goes to Carleton and I’ve had fairly extensive contact with the FA office. I’m not sure why you didn’t get any information from them, but know that they are very helpful and Minnesota friendly to work with. I’ve also found them to be pretty quick in their work as well. So, as frustrating as it’s been, have confidence that it will resolve. Also, if you have extenuating circumstances, make sure you let them know. One thing that they will ignore is if you say school X gave me this much.

@Anxiousdad53 – thanks for tip on not mentioning how much other colleges have offered; I was wondering about that. Carleton is D’s most expensive offer right now b/c of merit aid at other places, and since I"m now self-employed our income situation is different than what’s reflected on the fin aid forms. If it ends up as her first choice we may be trying to see if there’s anything more they can do. A drop of $8 to $10k would put it in reach, but not sure how likely that’d be. Still waiting on some other colleges too.

@Anxiousdad53 @AlmostThere2018 I didn’t know they ignore the “School X gave me this much.” When my sister was applying to colleges a few years back, her top choice was Johns Hopkins but they offered her Fin Aid. So she wrote a letter of appeal and attached the the FA pages she received from Duke and Cornell (where she received 30k), and JHU offered to match them since they were “peer institutions.” Granted, maybe this is dependent on the school, but given that Johns Hopkins did it, I would’ve thought other highly selective schools would do so also.

Also, thanks for checking on those dates! I guess April is going to be a busy month for me with travel every weekend!

Completely agree with @Anxiousdad53, the Carleton Financial Aid Office is very easy to talk with. And yes, do let them know about extenuating circumstances, pay cut/job loss, medical bills, etc. Think they have a form that parents can fill out discussing any change in ability to pay since FAFSA/CSS filled out last year.

Also, as @lorika mentioned, book your hotel reservations in Northfield as soon as you can. If you forget anything when packing, there is a well stocked Target store about 3 miles from campus. For “big” shopping a student can take the Northfield Lines shuttle to Mall of America/IKEA (also to MSP Airport & downtown Minneapolis) when they have time.

I am absolutely sure that I read that they didn’t want to know other schools awards a couple of years ago on their website when my eldest was applying there. I am looking there to find it now, and it’s not jumping out at me. Let me see if I can find it, and if I do, I’ll post it.
