carnegie mellon biotech versus uc san diego biotech pre-med

im wondering which school would be better to choose: uc san diego or carnegie mellon university for biotech pre-med?

I am a cali in-state resident so tuition fees are cheaper at uc san diego.

If you are from Cali and get instate tuition in UC schools, I say go to UCSD. CMU has more prestige if you ask me, but San Diego is a major bio tech center, so you could probably intern at some bio tech company. It depends on whats more important to you. If you care about the money, the weather, or staying close to home DEFINITELY go to UCSD. UCSD is also a much larger school than CMU so keep that in mind as well. CMU is more of a Comp Sci school than a pre-med one, but it ranked 51 nationally for sending students to top grad schools (UCSD wasn't ranked if I remember properly). I used to live in "America's Finest City" so my thoughts are partially biased, but I say go to UCSD. Plus, the Chargers could beat the Steelers any given Sunday :P

Public U, even very good ones like Berkeley, usually don't fare as well as the peer privates in terms of premed placement rate due to lack of enough resource for premed advising. CMU isn't known for premed placement or anything bio related but my guess is it should still be better than USCD as far as placement rate goes. But if we are talking about biotech/bioengineering, UCSD wins hands down (even without the cost difference). It has one of the top bioengineering programs and SD is the 3rd largest biotech centers (behind SF and Boston).
