What is the next step after getting accepted?
How do we join that virtual party?
My friend’s son got into the engineering major in cmu and considering whether it is easy to change to the CS major later?
We could do a group Zoom or something? Is there a FB group for the class of 2025 yet?
Hi! Congratulations to your friend’s son and welcome to CMU!
I know a lot of people double major or minor in SCS but very few actually transferring in; it is very difficult to switch into CS (you’re probably better off double majoring), here are the criteria for switching into SCS: SCS Transfer/Double Major Guidelines.
Hope that helps
Thanks for your answer
Congratulations. Can you please share your stats?

I just got accepted to Dietrich College, is it possible for me to transfer to ECE or SCS afterwards?
Possible but not easy. SCS has a process for transferring that requires that you take most of the initial CS classes and get mostly As in them before applying to transfer. Transferring to CIT (Engineering) has fewer requirements but has a more rigid course sequence so starting behind can be a problem. ECE is restricted meaning that not even all CIT accepts can declare it so they may not accept transfers if they are over subscribed already.
Transfering to ECE/SCS is really really hard.
I really wouldn’t torture myself over it.
If you want to try, sure. Just expect it be unsuccessful and be happy with your current major if it doesn’t work. CMU is stressful and please don’t add more to your stress.

Any idea on how many applied ED to CMU and how Nanyu got in
I cannot speak to the difficulty in transferring to SCS from CoE, but I can share the approach my younger son took. He graduated in Dec 2019 from the College of Engineering. In his sophomore year, he decided to minor in CS. In his junior year, he decided he wanted to major in CS as well, which he did. There is a very structured approach that SCS specifies for those looking to minor/major/transfer in CS. You have to take a certain number of CS classes and do well in all of them as the basic criterion for being able to officially set your relationship with them.
My suggestion would be to not ‘burn the CoE bridge’, but try a few CS classes as electives and see how it works out.
I got accepted to ECE class of 2025, and want to explore both hardware and software aspects of computing. I want to double major in CS also. Is it possible at CMU to double major or is it better for me to transfer to SCS
Hi! There is a specific track in ECE focused on software development but ECE and CS are quite different, and both with really heavy workloads. I would not double ECE and CS, but it is theoretically possible.
Hi did you get into Tepper?
I did not
