My son was accepted and received his letter yesterday. We live in PA. And unlike most schools, it came as a letter not a big packet. He was panicked when he first saw it! So good luck to everyone. I know how stressful the wait is. CMU was his dream school also!

If the ED response is anything like years past you will get a letter size envelope for both admit and reject/waitlist. The “fat letter” for ED admits comes at regular admission time.

Rejected… Unfortunately but everything happens for a reason right? I at least hope to get into one school outside of Virginia if I am stuck in this state (with these stuck up suburban kids) for another 4-5 years I might go insane. CONGRATS to everyone that has gotten in and GOOD LUCK to those of you still waiting. I posted my stats on the Official Carnegie Mellon University Class of 2018 Admissions Decisions thread so you can see what a rejects scores look like. If you are really concerned that you won’t get in… like I was… I worked on preparing myself for a rejection letter for the last few weeks (obviously you won’t have as much time but just try and be realistic for these next few days if you don’t have the most stellar scores) that way today I was able to quickly move on and productively work towards other colleges… and if I did get in it would have made it that much better. But I warn you don’t get too upset before getting the results, just enough to prepare yourself so you can move on healthily… Remember it isn’t the end of the world and sometimes it just isn’t meant to be (I know if you are rejected you will be hearing that from everyone and it is annoying and kind of sucks but its the truth, and don’t get mad at friends (especially ones that have been accepted places)/family they are just trying to comfort you the best they can) If you feel yourself getting upset just let them know (nicely) that you need to be alone and walk away for a bit. After I cooled off I was able to have a good conversation with my family and we listed out reasons why CMU was not the right choice. It definitely helps dull the pain of rejection. Plus I hate the Penguins anyway so there is a bright side for me also CMU has horrible gym facilities and no good sports teams (CONS lists always help numb the pain of rejection just think of it like a breakup it makes it easier to move on). HAHA anyway I am going to be posting chance me things to some of the other colleges I am now applying to if anyone can take some time out and chance me that would be great! Thanks and good luck everyone.
ALSO: my writing is not usually this atrocious and filled with so many grammatical/spelling errors I just typed this really quickly and didn’t bother proof reading. Feel free to private message me if you have any questions. :)

Just moving Vulkan’s question to here from the decision thread
Restricted: accepted to everything but ECE
CIT students don’t officially declare their majors until early-mid spring semester, so originally everyone’s major in CIT is “undecided”, including those who were admitted to ECE.
