2018 PSAT: 1410 (99th percentile)
My teacher recommendation is from my Honors Geometry/ Honors Precalculus teacher who is fond of me.
I won’t list extracurriculars since they weren’t a part of the app.
I’m also generally a strong writer so my essays should be decent once I finish them.
I really want to leave Tennessee and head to Pittsburgh this summer!
@keileenorthcutt You have a good chance but I’m not sure about that. A lot of people already applied and it seems like there are only very few spots left. You have good stats and have URM status. I was rejected today with a 35 on the ACT, 1470 on the PSAT, a 4.27 on a weighted scale and pretty good essays. I’m an asian male and my income bracket is around 100k, which probably got me rejected. So I’d say you should apply but make sure to apply as soon as possible.
Wow. I’m sorry to hear you were rejected, especially considering my test stats aren’t as good as yours. I’m almost done with my essays, but one of my recommenders still hasn’t sent in their letter. I hope maybe luck will be in my favor…
Do you know how many students apply to SAMS and how many get in?
Hi SAMS 18 Alunmi, I am just bored. If you have any questions let me know I’ll try to stick around this thread for a bit. I got into SAMS without a rec letter so if I made it you can too! Try to turn in the app asap they do rolling admissions!
@mgeek23 How was your experience living in the Carnegie Mellon dorms, your field trips, and the experiences you had?
@TheMadScientistX Honestly SAMS was to be honest the best educational experience I have ever had. At the Dorms something lit was happening 24/7 like sneaking out of our room after curfew during the weekend was great. Once you find your niche like it makes it 10/10 for the fieldtrips and the classes. Its fun to make REAL friends and just hang out which makes me want to get out of HS ASAP. Overall it’s great.
@mgeek23 Did the “niches” often include kids from other programs like Pre-College or was it often only kids in SAM that hung out together.
@Bing__Boy It was only SAMS kids. In fact you’ll noticed that SAMS is mostly separated from pre-college (We all loved that because we had separate parties). Unless you know someone from pre-college it is hard to make friends outside of SAMS. By the way partying at SAMS is a thing so be ready to go all in 100%
I know I’m a Pre College kid but what do you mean by parties? @mgeek23
@mgeek23 Ayyyyy that sounds awesome. I’m so excited.
@mgeek23 Can your roommate be someone from another program?
How long did it take for you guys to get your response? Also, do you have to submit all of the AI4ALL essays for them to make a decision?
@MuTh2024 The university arranges event like dances but within your program there people just hang out on a dorm and party. At sams someone in the dorms hosted a party in their room and sometimes got invited to some Upitt parties.
@Bing__Boy No. The programs stay in different dorms so you’ll be room with someone from sams.
So, I submitted my application on January 5th, but I submitted my essays and recommendations were submitted on January 21st. Does anyone know when they start reviewing your application? Is it when you submit the application or when everything (essays, recs, etc.) is submitted?
@TheMadScientistX They start reviewing it after they have received all the requirements. After you have submitted everything, you will get your decision within 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if there is a group chat for everyone that was accepted into SAMS 2019?
@Bing__Boy I don’t think there is- if you want to make one I’d love to join!
@akdoxmi Maybe I can create a chat on GroupMe?
