Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

Actually i got waitlisted for APEA… And they said they really dont go to the waitlist for the summer programs…

Thanks ambaturkey11!! I’m a rising senior, so I’ll hopefully see you there! Is it a big work load, because I don’t want to get stressed out…

Jellyfeesh, what kind of stats did you have when you applied? Just to see a comparison.

if you don’t mind, could all acceptees put what state they are from? thanks

the seniors last year said that it wasn’t that bad. They had a 3 hour break 2 times a week…which all of the juniors coveted =] .Seniors have what’s in the booklet you have. The most stressful things were probably english(because of deadlines for papers and revisions) and calculus. Other than that… they had healthy stress =]

Did anybody get into APEA?

I applied to sams and apea but only got into sams.
Thanks for the info ambaturkey11, its really helpful!
As for my stats, i had a pretty high gpa and my sat score was between 1900-2100. I had a lot of extracurriculars too.
Oh, and I’m from nj.

@jelly: no problem! what part of NJ, I used to live in northern NJ

and I found out via facebook that another person got accepted to SAMS (rising senior)

Is 3.94 that low of GPA (I think my essays, recs, ECs were ok at least)? I had 231 for PSAT…I sent my 2400 to Carnegie Mellon thru collegeboard…but I have no idea if the summer program department got it -_-. I should’ve listened to my parents…I should’ve mailed this year’s report card/schedule and SAT…but I didn’t want to bother them… sigh regrets regrets

denial denial sniff i hate this

Aww, sorry umm, maybe the affirmative action got you?

@ummmm: awww i’m sorry :frowning: but you made a 2400!! you’ll get in any college you want! don’t let this discourage you. and if it makes you feel better…there were plenty of people who got into those programs and didn’t even get into CMU. Don’t let this get you down =[

ahhah thanks guys

i was just cranky when i wrote that - sorry bout my whining

i knew that it was hard for not-so-diverse asians to get into sams, and i had no idea what to expect of apea

well congrats to all that got in, and i’m gonna go cram for an ap test in 2 hrs (been too distracted with this)… bad day to get a bad news ><

I ttly know wat u mean i gotta cram 4 ap bio nd a bio test in skool 4 2morow so im pretty screwed as it is so this news wudve rlly been better say 2 days ago or next week

yeah… i have an APUSH exam tomorrwow, 2 AP English assignments due tomorrow, and I’m sick. yay me :|

wow ummm, you got a really high SAT score.
Did you get the National Merit Scholarship for the PSAT score you got?
And congrats to the people that got in
And what’s the difference between SAMS and Pre-College?

And good luck to those people who’re gonna take the AP Exam.
I’m taking one on Monday and Wednesday.
So nervous.

Rejected. :(

I thought their acceptance rate for APEA was like 40%… i get that the economy’s bad but y is it affecting us this much?

■■■.
I just got my rejection yesterday. I was actually extremely shocked because I thought I’d have no problem getting in. My PSAT is 220, GPA 5.0, and my math team is 1st in the nation. Essays and stuff were decent, too.
Do you think that my late application could have affected it? I sent mine in on April 1st but they didn’t get it until April 3.

Whatever. But congrats to everyone who got in! :)

how “diverse” are you? i’m trying to figure out how much influence that has (I sent it on March 2 but didn’t get in anyway)
