Hi! I am a SAMS 2017 alumni. Feel free to ask any questions and chat amongst yourselves as you all get accepted.
When do admissions decisions normally come out?
I applied but accidentally submitted a rec letter from an English teacher. I was going to ask my chem teacher to submit one shes already wrote for me when I got back from break. Do you think this will negatively effect me if they’ve already started reading my application? All the other info has been submitted from the portal except for the rec letter. Plus I was really confused cause in the previous part of the application there was also a blank to insert a teacher email for a rec letter.
hey what were your stats when you applied
@jsmith1 Decisions can come out as soon as Jan. 1st, but they probably won’t send out any emails until later. In terms of the letter of rec, you might be able to delete it. If you can’t, shoot them an email.
Alright, I’ll shoot them an email. Thanks
My AP Bio Teacher already send in a rec letter during my application. However when I finished the application, they want me to upload my rec letter. Should I upload it again?
Yeah that’s where the application confused me. I’d upload it again if you have it. I don’t have a copy of my teachers rec letter so I have to wait till i get back from break
If I get admitted to the program but I decided not to go because I am also applying to the the MITES program and a volunteering program at the UPenn Hospital, how would you notify them that you are not going
@Youngmis123 @jsmith1 You shouldn’t have to upload it again. That happened last year as it was just a program bug. You should be fine. Also, you can rescind your acceptance, but I would like to note that you have one month from the day you are accepted to either accept the offer or decline. I would say to accept the offer then, if you are accepted to MITES, rescind.
@ak2018 How much effort should I put into the short answer? Or what should I focus on the most?
@mbenitez1201 What is the short answer prompt this year?
@ak2018 What are your career/academic goals and how might the Summer Academy for Math & Science help you achieve those goals?
@ak2018 Do the physics classes that you can take during SAMS prepare you enough to do well on the Physics subject test?
I would say yes, but only if you do prepare if a little more for it. The SAMS Physics class, similar to MITES, only covers the usual and most prevalent Physics topics. If you want to be ready for the test, I would say to get a prepbook.
Alright, Thanks. Ill wait to see if im admitted first lol but thanks for the info. Won’t be taking a physics course til senior year and want to show some proficency so hopefuly I can study and do good on the test by the fall
Thought I’d just reply so I can easily access this thread. – Finished my app. last week so I’m hoping to hear back soon regarding their decisions haha.
I will also be reading essays until Monday. PM me and I’ll give you my email to share your essay on a Google Doc.
Hi guys, I’m currently filling out my online application. When it asks if you need accomodations in university housing is that meaning that you need a room because you’re not within commuting distance or is that meaning more on the lines of handicap/etc?
Actually scratch that, I just figured it out
Does anyone have any tips on what SAMS is looking for in the short answer essay?
