I got in with a 3.9 and a 1460 SAT (M+V). I sent my application in mid march. Is anyone else going?

hey, i got in and i'm almost 100% sure i'm going. i think it sounds really fun. are any of you sure if you're going?

i got in with a 4.6/5.0 and a 2250

I called in on Monday and found out that I was accepted to SAMS. I'm pretty sure that I'll definitely be there.

My stats weren't amazing, but they were still pretty good. Their motto is "Making Good Students Excellent" after all, right?

Woowww...my tests scores arent even close to those (as in theyre lower..)..and my GPA is about 3.8/ 4.0...they placed me out of SAMS though, since I already took Calculus this year....

i got waitlisted btw, for the APEA program. :/

hi, i applied to the precollege program. But I noticed that there's also a summer programs for diversity at CMU. Is there a difference between the two besides from being free. Is it harder to get into?

Yeah, probably. It's free after all.

Anyone know the acceptance rate for APEA?

All I know is that they only send out 100 acceptances. They also said about 800-1000 people apply a year. I don't know if that's exaggerated though...

Anyways, is it EXACTLY like the precollege program where people pay $7k to go to? Do we go to some kind of extra "Diversity" seminar or something?

The diversity part. Is basically, they try to attract people who couldn't afford the 7k program, therefore diversity in applicants and diversity in attendees. So the programs are identical just your getting a better deal

100/800 for SAMS. But what about APEA? It better not be like ONE HUNDRED percent. I'd be so sad. hahaha

i got into AP/EA, too! gpa: 3.96... i was surprised i made it in -- i also applied to an engineering program at virginia tech and was waitlisted. (...30 of the 40 applicants were accepted >__<")

ahh, i'm actually kind of nervous to be away from home for so long. ...D':

I'm pretty sure its harder to get into APEA than SAMS, since on the website, it says that "a small amount of students from SAMS will be placed in the APEA program"...I remember something like that.

sonofatree.... Where in norcal you from?

Cupertino, remember? You made that little comment about BJ's and Pazookies :D

Hmm, but I suspect that SAMS is more difficult to get into? I mean, don't most people PAY for APEA?

I DO hope that APEA is harder to get into than SAMS just because it makes me feel better ;) Hahaha but I doubt it.

Does anyone know if Pre-College, AP/EA, and SAMS are all in the same dorm? If so, do you know which dorm?

For those of you who were accepted, what is the "Reply by" date?

For SAMS, there was a little portion to detach with your decision along with a $100 deposit that had to be postmarked no later than Friday, May 11.

where are you guys from?

i'm from stl missouri. which is pretty far from pittsburgh, and my parents don't want to let me fly because they think i'm incapable of handling myself.

I'm from Florida, the Ft. Lauderdale area. I have a similar issue with flying. I will probably return home by myself, but my mom will probably fly up with me to make sure that I get there and make sure all goes smoothly with registration and whatnot. The odd thing is that I've flown alone before, but it wasn't over 1,000 miles.

-Noelle

wow. They'd spend money on an extra ticket to just "supervise" you? I don't think your parents should worry about registration, since way more than half the kids fly up there by themselves and the Summer college staff would definitely help you out. Anyways, I'm from California so..that's..2,500 miles away? It's like...a challenge to see if you're ready for travelling alone when the real deal comes in a year or two, I guess..
