I just got my letter today saying I got waitlisted for the Diversity Program.

However, an admissions officer told me for the Diversity Program, it's more like, 100 accepted out of 2500 applicants. Considering it's completely free, I can understand why.

All of you who said you were waitlisted/accepted/denied, please clarify whether that was for the regular program or for the Diversity program.

2500?! They keep changing the #'s on us....the first time I called, they said 1000, then another time, they mentioned it was around 800, and now 2500?!

That 4% admit rate is a bit difficult to believe. This program is twice as hard to get into as an Ivy? Even 1/8 seems steep for me. I wonder why this program feels inclined to lie about admission rates .. and why they can't be consistent about their lies :P -- very fishy.

Perhaps all of you are speaking to different admissions representatives. I think the 2500 applicant figure may be from SAMS and AP/EA combined. That would make a huge difference. I belive that SAMS alone may have had about 800-1000, with the difference of the 2500 from AP/EA. Those figures sounds a bit more accurate to me.

You guys also have to remember that there are two programs under SAMS. One is for rising juniors and the other is for rising seniors. Furthermore, there are the AP/EA, Art, Architecture, Drama, and Music programs. So that '2500 applicants' may very well be accurate for the all of these programs. However, I highly doubt that they received 2500 applicants just for SAMS.

Pgtori, are you currently a sophomore? Because I got waitlisted as a sophomore last year and ended up being rejected but I was accepted this year, as a Junior. Maybe the sophomore program is more competitive, mais je ne sais pas!

I am a sophmore but I don't know either. My GPA is probably my weakest link, I am sort of the underacheivin smart kid who is too lazy to do much homework but can rock tests. So I'm no where near a 3.9, but it's not to bad of a GPA. My friend who is a rising senior has a lower gpa than me and got accepted.

I care about the acceptance rate because I am hoping APEA isn't a program where everyone is accepted. Wouldn't that just make the whole process meaningless then?

Sorry aquamarinee, but I think most people get accepted to AP/EA if they apply through "pre-college" since you have to pay for it. However, if you apply through the diversity program its competitive because those accepted don't have to pay the tuition.

I'm not sure if it's the same for the "Pre-college APEA" program, but when I went to Cornell last year, it seemed like many people with extremely low GPA and tests scores were accepted.

Really though, don't let the "acceptance rate" get to your head. The part that really matters is how well you perform in your classes over the summer at the university. That's the factor that will set you apart from them at the end.

You're right, yousonofatree, in about 6 weeks, none of this will matter. We will be carrying on with our lovely summer activities, then it will all come down to what happens in the classroom, or elsewhere for everyone else.

You have to send in a hundred deposit for the diversity thing? So know one know's many people were waitlisted. I feel in limbo, now waiting for this stuff. Next year I have to apply to more than one thing so my whole summer isn't based on this.
