Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

@jeffrandell What happens if we don’t pay the deposit immediately? I don’t know my summer plans completely and don’t have the money available to just ‘lose’ $100.

@Hamlon It says to submit the deposit within 30 days of getting accepted… so I’d suggest waiting until the last week if your plans will be confirmed by then. Otherwise, call them to find out if you would be able to get a refund.

Hey Guys, I was also accepted into SAMS yesterday!

I created the above groupchat for all those accepted into any of Carnegie Mellon’s Summer Programs for Diversity.

Also, for those accepted and feel like the $100 deposit would pose a problem, e-mail Carnegie Mellon and ask for a fee waiver. I did this and now I don’t have to pay the $100.

omg i submitted all my documents really early but i still haven’t gotten any notice :frowning: i applied for science and math academy, did anyone who applied for SAMS get accepted yet?

also, does the acceptance come in the mail? if you are rejected, is it also through the mail?

sorry, so much questions hehe x) im super nervous ahhhhh

but for everyone who was accepted, CONGRATS ^__^!!

also, i live in california, so could that affect the notice delivery rate?

congrats everyone who got in!

for some reason, when I uploaded my second letter of rec today, the first one no longer appeared on the list of received documents. did this happen to anyone else when they submitted their second letter of rec?

@bwscribbles don’t worry the same thing happened to me. I emailed them and they confirmed they had both letters

@boahancock I was accepted into SAMS two days ago and submitted my app two weeks ago. I received an acceptance e-mail, nothing came in the mail. If you submitted it early, I would call or e-mail them ASAP. If they accepted you, you would only have 30 days to accept the acceptance and pay the $100 deposit.

@boahancock It seems they are sending SAMS acceptances in waves. The 1st group of acceptances went out a month ago and there was a 30 day deadline to accept. Now a 2nd wave has gone out after they had chance a to see how many of the original group committed and how many slots remain. Don’t give up hope as I am sure there will be another round of acceptances mid April.

anyone apply to game academy?

My D applied to Art as first choice and game academy second. Still waiting to hear. What about you?

I applied game academy as first choice and design as second. also still waiting to hear.

Art or programming focus?

Anyone else still waiting for a decision from Carenegie Mellon Summer Programs for diversity in Art? Their website has changed to “The application deadline for all Summer Programs for Diversity was March 3 - however we’ve extended the application deadline. We encourage students who are interested to submit an application as soon as possible.” There used to be a message extending the deadline for applications and supporting documents until March 15. I’m not sure how to interpret this. To me, either they are holding out for better applicants or deciding if they have enough students to have a program. The latter would be hard for me to believe since it seems like a well-established program. I don’t have much background knowledge about it – I only found out about it on CC.

I wish they would just either send a rejection notice or give a date when decisions will go out. D needs to plan to apply for other programs soon, or she’ll miss out on other opportunities waiting on them.

Please excuse the typo with the extra e in Carnegie.

@ready2launch Thanks for that update on the deadline extension. We are in the same situation waiting to hear on Art as well. My S18 has been accepted to two other programs and we are waiting on this one and another one. Why have a deadline in the first place if it’s going to be extended.

@magnetnh I agree. I’m contemplating telling D17 to email them to see what’s going on. Worried her PSAT scores would put her acceptance jeopardy. She has a 4.7 weighted GPA and is an IB diploma candidate with good recommendations. She took AP Drawing as a sophomore and got a 4 on her portfolio. I hope that’ll be enough to get in. From other postings it seems like those with super high scores were accepted right away in the academic programs. I wish the art programs required or allowed portfolio submissions.

for all applicants, has anyone received a rejection letter yet? waiting for mine tbh… :-//

Hey guys, you can check this website: https : / / directory . andrew . cmu . edu / Correct me if I’m wrong, but your name should be listed under Pre-College Summer Program if you are accepted.
