I got accepted to the SAMS… and i guess we’ll all be there 2 days. I’m SOOOOO nervous. Am I alone? lol

To the people who got accepted to the SAMS program…can I please get help on the essays?

i’m applying too.
grin.
lets rejuvenate this thread!!!

im working on my first essay as we speak.

i’ll be a returing senior going to SAMS this year so if you need any help or have any questions just pm me!!

yeah!!!
10char

I want to apply to the AP/EA program, and I’ve noticed that there are questions about parental education status and family income on the application. If these are considered in the admissions, I’m screwed. If I have good enough test scores and grades and stuff, do I have a chance in the free program anyway? Will I be moved to the paid program (Pre-College) if my family income is too high?

I wanted to apply to the AP/EA program but idk if my stats are good enough. I have 4.3 W GPA, 2280 SAT, 224 PSAT. I just don’t want to go to SAMS where I receive unnecessary SAT Prep everyday of the week. I’m very strong in AP Chem and Honors Physics(basically AP Physics B) this year and have taken the hardest classes thus far in high school. Anyone wanna chance me? I have lots of EC’s as well and was born in India(emigrated from India at age 6).

lexluthor-- I think your stats are fine. I got into diversity AP/EA last yr with a 187 PSAT and I hadn’t taken the SAT as of yet, and your SATs are remarkably higher. I have a lot of friends who did SAMs and I never once heard them talk about the SAT prep so I don’t know if it’s that big of a deal.

Ok thanks a lot rissa. Is the program targeted towards minorities or low income families? I’m not either.

Honestly, have no idea. I applied on a whim knowing that by most standards I am not a minority (Guyanese-- Indian), and got in… And I don’t even know if income is a factor because they only asked for it once on the first online application but never asked for verification or tax papers to prove it.

I think SAMs is more for minorities because my friend told me it was 99.99% African Americans & Hispanics.

hey rissa i have a few questions:
- what kind of classes do they offer for AP/EA (do you just choose any classes?) i can’t seem to find htis on the site…
- does the teacher recommendation have to describe my strengths as a student overall or my strengths in the program…?
- how difficult would you say it is to get in?

thank you so much!

hey bookends,

AP/EA really offers a lot of classes including calculus, physics, chemistry, languages, psychology, history, english, statistics, etc. There’s an old list somewhere of what they offered one year, if I find it I’ll post it. It’ll give you a general sense of what’s available. I took Modern Chem I, Social Psych & Experimenal Chem. SO MUCH FUN. I mean the Chem classes were really hard but there were only 9 students in Modern Chem and 3 in Experimental, so it was really easy to go to the professor for help, or better yet schedule meetings with them. Plus there were TA’s that had homework and quiz review sections, and it was almost one-on-one.

I have no idea… My teachers first wrote about me as a student and in the last paragraph wrote why it would be beneficial for me to be in the program (since my school only offered 4 APs at that time, and I REALLY wished I could take Advanced Placement Chemistry, since I wanted to major in Chem but the school didn’t have the budget to do so O_O)

I don’t know… :-

currently freaking out about the essays
i really want to get into apea but my stats aren’t stellar (at all) D:
@rissa543 did u have a really high gpa?

How to send the “standardized test score”? Thru College Board?

Is it ok to send in our letter of recommendations separately from the rest of our application? My teachers sent them in separately because they wanted it to be private.

Hey! I’m applying too! I’m not done with the essays yet, and they’re probably not going to be too good, so I’m hoping that my grades and test scores are good enough.

@QuantumLipids

Isn’t the application due tomorrow?

@NiteStriker

I got an email 2/24 that said that they extended the deadline to April 1st.

It was from the program’s email address, so it seems pretty legit. I’m going to go by that one because I haven’t had much time to apply to SAMS, and I need the extension.

and i emailed the contact tooo and they confirmed the new 4/1 deadline
