Carnegie Mellon Summer Programs for Diversity

bump..........

I would like someone to clarify this:
Why does the Diversity and the Pre-college have same phn numbers and e-mail? Besides, what is the point in having the same program, one costly and one free?

^
i really wouldn't know. from an outsider's point of view, by having a diversity program, the college can increase the diversity of the program and maybe possibly attract some of the 'high' qualified students. i mean, who doesn't like free stuff.

the SAMS website says:
The curriculum for rising high school seniors will include credit and non-credit courses designed and taught by members of the Carnegie Mellon faculty
Which courses give you credit? (this question is for people who have attended SAMS before)

did anyone get any sort of confirmation that they got our app/info? I sent mine march 1

not yet. I also sent mine on March 1st

can someone answer me about the credit/non-credit courses?

Hey, so what do you guys think my chances are of getting in? I have a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, but my weighted GPA is 4.84. I'm in IB and several AP classes. I got a 32 ACT and a 218 on the PSAT. My extracurriculars are opera, tennis, and community service. I ask becuase I have another program on hold but this is probably my top choice.

^What program is that?

I'm not sure, you chances seem pretty good. But I know of some people applying who have got 2300+ SATs, and same ECs and grades. Hopefully, you're a URM.

Yeah, I am a URM, actually. The other program is the LEAD buissness program - my counselor said it looked great on college apps., but I think this will be way better. I actually just got my SAT scores yesterday - 2280 composite.

what classes are available for the SAMS program?

Calc, english, SAT prep, Engineering or Science Projects...

what do they mean by engineering or science projects? like actual research?

^No, not actual independent research. Some of the different areas available have preset experiments you carry out, while others give you quite a bit of freedom in choosing what you would like to do.

My D applied to CMU SAMs program for Summer 2009. Is anyone applying from the Washington Metro area? Did anyone enroll in the Science and Math program last summer?

idk if i should call them…them being carnegie mellon b/c i kinda need to know about how i’m standing in the music sector pool of applicants since i need to give my reply to other programs…><

So I’m applying for theatre…not SAMS or AP/EA or anything. I kinda feel like an outcast. But let me know when any of you get your letters! They say May 1st, but…

well they mailed the letters on wednesday/thursday…but i didn’t get one yet. did anybody get one yet?

i got accepted to apea; the letter was in the mail today. but then again, i live near pittsburgh.

i got accepted to hope to see u all there
