Carnegie Mellon v Lehigh for chem major

I've been going back and forth on this decision for weeks now and it's driving me crazy. I know my heart was set on CMU, but the major factor of my indecision is due to the difference in cost. After finanical aid, CMU will cost me about $30k/year, while Lehigh will be $18k/year. Which one do you think has the best value? Is CMU worth paying $30k or is Lehigh the better deal?

I'm planning on getting involved with research opportunities during college, and am hoping to obtain a career as a scientific researcher in chemistry or medicine. I feel so drawn to CMU and I want to be able to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities there, but I also feel like I can still succeed and be happy at Lehigh.. help!

Obviously one has a lower bottom line for you - but the question is: Can you afford the $30K? If you can (for all four years), I think you should go to CMU. If you can’t afford it without taking out a lot of extra loans, then perhaps you should look at Lehigh.

You certainly can succeed at Lehigh, but what are your parents’ thoughts on the affordability of your first choice?
