Carnegie Mellon Waitlist 2023

For those of us that are on the CMU waitlist Best of Luck!!!

Some other colleges, UCLA, UMichigan, etc already started accepting from WL. Good Luck! Everyone!

but they won’t notify until may 1st right?

good luck everyone! what college/program are you waitlisted for? im on the waiting list for CFA drama D&P

I’m waitlisted for CMU design

I called admissions and they said they’d send out the potential prompts tomorrow. (SCS here rip me

So May 2nd?

quote from the regular 2023 thread

“For anybody who was wondering, admissions said there is around 1000 people on the PWL this year for an expected 30 spots. Essentially it is 5 times harder to get off the waitlist than to get in… not going to waste my time writing the essay on Thursday…”

I think only people who have some chance get the prompt, not everyone on the list. For example, if one school has 5 opening, they may select 10 out of 100+ for the prompt.

i don’t understand what’s the prompt for?

They want to see who can benefit most from the precious spot.

@lalalalala321 Its an additional essay question to get into CMU. So another essay in May , that admissions uses to judge your ability to write and think and your desire for admission.

ohhh i seee so does the essay weigh much in their decisions?

Has anyone received an email

anyone waitlisted to MCS?

Last year, people started getting the email in the morning of 5/2

Beyond just the recent news surrounding college admissions making national headlines, the call for change in the college admission process is growing louder. Since you’ve just gone through your own college search, we want to hear your thoughts. What do you think colleges can do to make this process better for all applicants?

Your recommendations can be big or small, positive or negative, Carnegie Mellon-specific or applicable to the entire college admission process – we value problem solvers here at Carnegie Mellon and want to hear what you have to suggest. What we’re looking for are thoughtful ideas based on your experiences over the past year. Please keep your response limited to 300 words.

Waitlisted for SCS and can confirm that is the prompt! Surprised there is actually room left lol
