carnegie mellon

Right now, I really like carnegie mellon in general but I want to major in industrial engineering which they don't offer.
What kind of engineering program do you guys think is "easier" or similar to get in that might relate to industrial engineering?

or should i just not apply to cmu...

You don't have to major in industrial engineering to become an industrial engineer. I know that for sure because my late father was a chemistry major who became an industrial engineer.

CMU is a good college and well worth applying to.

Both of my parents were mechanical engineers by training, but went into IE for their career. I know the MechE department also offers specializations in stuff like Supply Chain Management and some other one that sounded suspiciously similar to IE, so you might want to give a look at the student handbook.

If you're into the math side of IE, you should also look into Operations Research (OR) which is a field offered by a lot of technical schools (though I imagine it might be more of a graduate-program field).

if i were to major in operations research which is a business major at cmu, would it be easy to move into IE (industrial engineering) in the future...

i'm def. more into the math side of IE
need help finding a major similar to IE, because it is not offered at cmu

I imagine it'll be easier to go from OR to IE than from IE to OR due to OR being more quantitative than IE.

If you like math, you may want to consider majoring in it. (The department is called mathematical sciences at Carnegie-Mellon.) Operations research type courses are offered in the math department, as well as in the department of IE/OR (if it exists) or sometimes in business school, depending on the emphasis and approach.
