Carolina on my mind....

So EAmom and I are here in Chapel Hill for our final Family Weekend....sigh....

No matter how many times we visit we always come away feeling that this just might be the PERFECT place to go to school...the town and people are so friendly and the school just gets prettier each time we visit. True the construction seems to be never ending and has been hard to ignore since our first visit in the Spring of 2004 but the net result is a much better looking campus with a more homogenous look now replacing some of the truly bad architecture of the 50s and 60s.

We had lunch with our S who is definitely going through a bit of melancholy at the thought of leaving. He commented several times that he really loved this place and didn't even want to think about leaving...it has really become "home."

To those of you first year TarHeels....enjoy your time, you aren't gonna believe Franklin St on Halloween or after a victory over Dook.....the best is really yet to come.

To those still in HS, UNC and Chapel Hill offer an education that is academically on par with any elite school while offering an undergrad experience that will stay with you for your lifetime. It is a difficult admission ticket to punch, especially if you are OOS, but you will never regret the decision to attend if you are fortunate enought to be admitted.

Enough of my own melancholy..we're off to have dinner with our S and some friends and are doing all we can to pack the weekend and make it memorable. This very likely may be the our last visit to Chapel Hill before commencement in May.......VERY HEAVY SIGH.......

I know I will feel the same way when my D graduates... she is loving it.. but she's lucky, she still has 3 more years... and I'm sure she'll love every minute of it. I just it were me there! LOL!

With an OOS son who's going to try his best on his application and then just hope to win the lottery, I have to be careful not to be going to Carolina in my mind! Oh, well: If he does not get in, Chapel Hill will become a viable retirement option in the nearer future.

Enjoy every bit of your weekend. I don't know if I'll make it through senior year in HS with no melancholy. I can't imagine senior year in college quite yet.
