Carroll Hall?

Do they really assign freshmen to Carroll Hall? It seems so far removed from everything - I think I would really be disappointed.

Yeah, they punish all of the people who anger the administration (Pro-choicers, atheists, minorities and FTT majors) by assigning them to Carroll Hall freshman year.

Didnt I hear/read something about Carroll being discontinued as a dorm?

is it a male or female dorm?

"Yeah, they punish all of the people who anger the administration (Pro-choicers, atheists, minorities and FTT majors) by assigning them to Carroll Hall freshman year."

hahaha. Guess I'm screwed then.

Carroll is going to be converted into a hotel.

It is the old health services building that is being torn down for a hotel. Why there needs to be a hotel there when there is already one on campus and soon to be two across the street I don't know.

They want a lake front hotel, and Carroll is really a ridiculous thing to spend upkeep money on, when there are so much newer and closer dorms being built. I have received my info first hand from a very rich, and generous, alum.

I am just so excited that I was looking up all the dorms. I can't wait till I get the dorm assignment.
Which dorms are considered the best? The ones by the library? The old ones like Alumni and Dillon?
That new dorm looks like it has amazing rooms and facilities - I think I like the location also.
Whatever, I can't wait.

Another question - how does everyone get to the airport in Chicago? Is it easy to take a bus? What about in the winter - I hear there is a lot of snow?

A bus takes about 2 1/2 hours. In winter, the snow is not the bad part, the cold is.

Everyone thinks their dorm is the best. The truth is no dorm has everything. No dorm has the best combination of location, quality of rooms, and traditions. With that said, Keenan is obviously the best. We're pretty awesome.

Thanks.
I just looked it up and Keenan seems to be in a good spot.

Just what is the Keenen Review?

Alumni is the best. Easily. North quad dorms are deceptive - they look like they're in good spots, but they're not really, unless you like psychology and Vietnam War Memorials.

Alumni is on main circle, as well as being equidistant to basically every important building on campus. Father George, our rector, sets the standard. Our dorm loyalty and community is unrivaled - we're the only dorm with a positive transfer rate (more people transfer in than transfer out). And we have Wake Week.

We win.

Keenan Revue is the most attended dorm event on campus, for three nights in early February every year held at O'Laughlin Auditorium on Saint Mary's campus. It is pretty much a sketch comedy show with a Notre Dame spin on a lot of the jokes, but is incredibly funny. It is entirely performed, set up, filmed and produced by Keenan residents.

The South Dining Hall looked awesome - much better than the North. Is that the general feeling? If so, Alumni would probably be better.
I know it's useless to think about this right now - I will be randomly assigned somewhere. But, it is fun to think about - I am so done with school.

The location is never really an issue for me. It only takes 10 minutes to get anywhere from Keenan.

uh.. depends what you mean by BEST

I just visited this weekend and I stayed at Zaum....... DAMN THEY'RE PARTY ANIMALS!

Zaum is the craziest dorm.

I didn't know there was a dorm called Zaum.

so I saw on here that Carroll is becoming a hotel? Is this true? So when will people no longer be assigned to Carroll?

well i got placed into carroll this year as an incoming freshman...overall im not to stoked about it. the distance seems like it will be a killer. not just with walking to class, but im sure its going to hamper the social aspect as people aren't very likely to just drop by and visit.

Am I correct in worrying about this?

what can you tell me about this dorm?

You don't make friends by having random people drop by, you make friends through your classes, through other friends, and through extracurricular activities. So unless you're not going to classes, not regularly hanging out with other friends, and not doing any extra activities, you'll be okay with the social aspect.

Also, Carroll Hall seems to have a very tight-knit laid back and fun loving community, the distance might be a nuisance, especially during the winter months, but that's pretty much the only worry you have, and its a trivial worry at that.
