Random people WILL drop by and you will make friends that way. However, just like in any other dorm, they will mostly be from your own dorm. But the friends you'll make from other dorms you will meet in classes, through friends, etc. Most people I know in Carrol are perfectly happy there. They complain about the distance, but the view and the size of the rooms helps to make up for that a bit. Every dorm has its pros and cons. There really aren't any bad dorms at Notre Dame.

Except for Dillon.

Nah, Dillon's all right. Sorin's the one you've got to watch out for...

why Sorin?

None of them are bad, just some have their faves and thus are biased towards the others. Do not let other peoples judgements scare you or even excite you about a particular dorm, you cannot be so gullible lol.

don't let anyone tell you otherwise...the campus is so small it doesnt matter what dorm you're in...even carroll is closer than the dorms at many of my friends schools...c'mon people lets be serious

secondly, i think north is a way better dining hall...the food selection isnt that much narrower, and the layout is far superior...plus harry potteresque? cmon people...who cares, you cant hear a dang thing in there

Posting on my Mom's account, again:

Carrol is far away, I don't think I've ever actually been over there except for when I'm running around the lake. I have a friend there that hangs out a lot in our room (in Dillon) because it's too far to go back between classes. He has a bike though and he seems to get by OK.

As for North vs. South dining hall - South CLEARLY has the better food selection, not to mention an easier time of loading up your tray. I always get lost when I eat at North because you can't see what the food is until you've gone into the little side-rooms where they cook it. I end up going in and out of 3 or 4 different rooms looking for what I want. But the food at ND is better than most colleges no matter where you eat, and that's REALLY what counts.

Carroll is not going to become a hotel.

How is it easier to fill up your tray at South? Has anybody ever heard of a line? North has the food easily partitioned into various sections which allows a free flow as opposed to an uncontrollable frenzy. And stir fry.

Hang on now, last I checked, South has a stir fry as well. I was just saying I prefer being able to see where and what all the food is as soon as I walk into the DH - which is easier in South. In north you need to poke your head into all those rooms to see what's cooking.

As far as I can tell though the actual FOOD is the same in both Dining Halls, but each one has its own pros and cons. North does have a make-your-own-pizza station, which is something South lacks. And as someone else mentioned, if you're after a nice quiet meal, you should go to North - there are a few secluded little dining rooms that you can eat in.

South is still my favorite as it's only about 20 seconds away from my front door.
