Okay, so my summer job is being the receptionist at a very large mercedes dealership, and my desk is in the showroom. So I got used to seeing the muybachs, and the SL 600 in front of my desk, but today they just rolled in an SLR, and WOW. I am not generally a car person, and before today when I heard SLR my first thought was a Camera (single lense reflex), but wow that is a beautiful car. It's kind of funny seeing all of these grown men walk into the show room, and they just light up; they're like little kids in a candy store. A bunch of people have come in to take pictures, and as I speak 3 men are walking around it, looking at the bumper, everything. One of the managers said it was $452k. . . again.... wow.

Edit: I just looked it up and it's called the McLaren, and it's $452,750 to be precise.

dude you should go to a formula 1 race. while being beautiful, those cars have some of the most powerful (850+ hp V8) and the least fuel-efficient (average of 4mpg) engines, and they sound like THE REAL DEAL. nascar, indy car - screw that. you have to just hear those babies roaring 20 feet from you, feel the ground shaking, smell the rubber burning, see them go from 200 mph to 60 back to 200 in less than 6 seconds, to know that you've seen the kings of all cars.
by the way, this is the real mclaren: http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img48161600x12003cv.jpg
PS and they cost only around $6,000,000. i wonder what are those drivers' insurance rates ;)

I think it's a "McLaren" Mercedes in being named after the designer/engine specialization. IOW, McLaren is a person's name, not a specific car brand.

Bruce McLaren created a racing team to compete in different races, but ended up as a Formula 1 team eventually. It was created in 1963, and started producing road cars based on Formula 1 technology in 1990 by creating McLaren Cars.

dima1109- you sound like quite a F1 fan. I used to be really into Formula 1, I even went to a GP in England, an amazing experience. But afterwards I just stopped watching the races, mainly due to lack of time, eventually I lost interest , which sucks, because it is by far one of the best motorsports.

megaman123 yeah i'm a huge fan of michael schumacher and ferrari since 1998, i was so mad when mika hakkinen won 2 years in a row, but then in 2000-2004 i was comforted ;) I just went to this year's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, and i'm planning on going to Indy next year for the US Grand Prix. God, i wish they had the race in Phoenix again

That's kool. I know of a guy on the internetz who has over 2 Million in cars and test drove the McLaren. He lives in some smaller town in Ohio. That's why I asked.

dima-"i'm a huge fan of michael schumacher and ferrari " sweet! Schumacher is awesome, its amazing to see him drive...I actually used to have a Ferarri shirt autographed by him, but I sold to my cousin a few months ago ( made mad cash though haha).
