The CAS website under Majors and Minors includes Cinema Studies in the list, and I was confused because it said it was part of Tisch.

I read a book I got from NYU which lists all areas of study. It says the Cinema Studies is a major but in conjunction with Tisch.
Does that mean people with that major have to be in Tisch and it somehow counts as a double major for them?

There are prerequisites and permissions involved, however:
“In order to declare the cinema studies major for the forthcoming semester, students must schedule an appointment with the departmental CAS liaison during the following periods: fall semester entrance (March 15 to April 15); spring semester entrance (October 15 to November 15). If a student does not meet with the department during these periods, they will be asked to declare for the next semester. Students must also have one year of residency at CAS prior to declaring the major; incoming freshmen and transfers are not eligible for immediate declaration upon entrance to the University.”

Also: "To declare the Cinema Studies major/minor or be cleared for registration, CAS students should meet with the Tisch Cinema Studies Department (721 Broadway, 6th Floor, Phone: 212 998 1600) during the following time periods:

For Spring registration: October 1 to November 1
For Fall registration: March 15 to April 15 "

After reading through the links it’s clear that the major is offered through CAS but conducted through Tisch. Perhaps it’s just a way to give students who enter NYU as an “undecided” , as so many do, a way to pursue a major or minor in cinema studies?
