I remember that I asked quite a few questions on this site last year, and I thought I could help. Life, academics, whatever, go ahead and ask.

How the social/party/drinking scene? Is there a lot of that going on? More so or less than at other schools?

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer these.

how much does the Washington square park construction interfere with life/getting around?

How bad is Writing the Essay?

How tight is security with visitors?

If i apply as undecided to CAS, when do i decide on my major?
Also, does all the contruction (as asked above) interefere BADLY with dorm life??

@fwarner: "How the social/party/drinking scene? Is there a lot of that going on? More so or less than at other schools?"

Everyone says it depends on your dorm. I'm in Rubin, and I'm pretty much friends with my whole floor; there's a bit of drinking, but there's a distinct lack of frats. My friends tend to get hammered every week or so, so it's not really a lack of alcohol, but places to party. There's lots of clubs out there that don't card (and a few other places as well).

@sagecoll: "how much does the Washington square park construction interfere with life/getting around?"

To be honest, I just cut around it. Most of my classes are in Silver, so I don't really have to go through (and I usually never eat at Kimmel). They're supposed to be finishing up construction in time for graduation this year, but we'll see.

"How bad is Writing the Essay?"

Supposedly depends on your teacher; I'm taking a linked class (which is a Conversations of the West class related to the WTE class) but supposedly there were only a few A's (out of roughly 60).

"How tight is security with visitors?"

I haven't really found security to be that tight, but visitors do need to have some sort of photo ID to get in. Other than that, you're home free.

@tb_s2: "If i apply as undecided to CAS, when do i decide on my major?"

By the end of sophomore year. If you want to declare for IR (international relations), you'll have to do it in the beginning of sophomore year.

"Also, does all the contruction (as asked above) interefere BADLY with dorm life??"

Not at all.

Would you mind sharing some of your ECs, SAT scores, GPA, etc...
just so I can compare it to my own chances?

Also... was NYU good/bad at giving you financial aid if you need it?

thanks

GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: Top 1%
SAT: 780 M/720 CR/800 W
EC: Basic glut of clubs with extensive volunteering, 10+ years of an instrument, and a few leadership positions.

Trust me, you need nowhere near those numbers to get in; a lot of my friends scored around a 2100, etc.

Financial aid depends on the person getting it, tbh. For me, it was merit/need, but I've heard they've been moving it over to solely need. I pretty much only have to pay around a few grand a year.

Just out of curiousity, what is your major?

Technically, I'm undecided, but I'm on a Political Science/Economics track.

Do you think a 3.4-3.5 GPA with an SAT 2200 is a safe bet?

how bout GPA with 3.5 with.2100 for CAS?

Both of you could have a better GPA, but I think it's good enough (maybe not a complete safe bet, though), although I'm pretty sure sAxsKy's scores are sure enough.

Is there actually any student in NYU has a SAT score lower than 1900?
And is the school really bond with NYC? Like you are inside one of the city's buildings?
Is it better to put down undecided? (for stern or CAS)

Thanks!

A friend of mine in Tisch had lower than a 1900. I'm pretty sure I feel like a New Yorker already (at least, I walk fast now, anyway, haha.) And no, your major means nothing for application (as most schools already know students change their minds anyway)

is NYU CAS good to major in Pre-med/biochem?...and is there anyone in the CAS with a SAT score under 2100..i'm currently in the 1900-2000 SAT score range, but i've always considered NYU CAS a lot =[

ic, thanks a lot
so it doesn't matter what major you choose for application?
in case i get in, when do we have to confirm my major?

no, they pretty much just care about what school you're applying to
you formally declare your major at the end of sophomore year, so dw about that yet

Okay, no im really scared.
I have a butt-load of extracurricular activities and ALOT of leadership positions and national awards
My gpa is 3.55 (honors and AP classes only get a .025 bump at my school :-( )
My SAT scores are low (1730)
I'm an african american male and
Im applying to CAS through ED

Should I be expecting a rejection letter come December?
Please be honest.

Your awards and your URM status might carry you through; those scores are pretty low though.
