Cas or Wharton?

Hi, I am a senior this year and planning to apply to Upenn for early decision. I am a very ordinary asian girl from Canada. I don't have stellar grades nor outstanding extracurriculars.
The only advantage that I think I have is that I am a new immigrant to Canada. I finished 8th grade in my home country, skipped grade 9, and attended grade 10 in Canada. So i have been here for 2 yrs already. Right now I am thinking about whether I should apply to CAS economics or Wharton. I know that Wharton really puts leadership into consideration but is it possible to get in without outstanding leadership ECs? Moreover, how is the CAS economics? is Cas easier to get into?
Below are my info:
gpa: 89 top 10% in my school
sat 2090 (I will be retaking it next week)
toefl 116
sat 2 math level 2 770, biology m 680
Ap: micro/macro both 4, biology 3, calculus bc 4, psychology 4
ECs: math tutor(in my school, and at Kumon), teacher's assistant( at a language school), school ambassadors (3yrs, treasurer for 1 yr), job at a coffee shop, part of math club, chess club, junior achievement for 1 yr(went to a sunlife financial trade show and won awards)
i have finished my common app essay and my friends say that it is pretty good. I am pretty sure that my guidance and teachers recommendations will be well done because they all like me. :)

Thanks, and good luck to everyone who are applying to universities this year!

Apply to Wharton

Thanks but isn’t it harder to get into Wharton?

I would apply to Wharton if that’s what you are focused on. Don’t focus on applying to the College or any of the other undergraduate schools at Penn just to increase your chances. Even if you did and you wanted to go through an internal transfer, it can be a very difficult process. My advice to you is to look at the programs offered in both the College and Wharton. If one suits you over the other then apply to that school. I don’t know how much I have to emphasize this but College and Wharton are exceptional in economics. Do not cave in to the pressure of applying to one school because of name recognition. If you happen to like Wharton, then apply. Best of luck to you!

^^No. That’s probably the biggest myth perpetuated on this board. I would say, however, that Wharton looks for different things in its students than, say, CAS or SEAS. However, that’s not the same as saying it’s “harder” to get into.

Thanks for ur replies!
