If you can, answer the questions below
1) What was your major? Opinions? What sets that program and major apart?
2) Were your hopes and goals met by the program and school?
3) Was the NYU experience beneficial/Worth all the money?

Thank you BUNCHES!

Rising CAS Junior here.

1) Economics (policy track) with Business Studies minor. My friends jokingly call me a wannabe Sternie because of my concentration (no offense taken, heh) and it’s true that a lot of what I do overlaps with Stern. Even so, I think what “sets that program and major apart” is that it gives a more social science-oriented study rather than pure business. Generally I feel that while Stern churns out kids in suits going to JPMorgan, CAS Econ pumps out kids going to government work or further academics. That’s not to say that CAS Economics puts you at any disadvantages against Sternies if you want to go the pure business route. Sometimes I’ve even heard of cases where Sternies complain about how many offers CAS kids got, so there’s some perspective.

2) I’m not really sure what I expected. Originally I was an education major freshman year but changed it to econ because I felt that the work I did in education wasn’t satisfying enough. Some people make excellent teachers and that’s great, but I don’t think I’d be one of them. Since I didn’t have much expectations, I was neither disappointed nor satisfied by econ. I feel very neutral toward it.

3) It was definitely beneficial but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price tag. NYU does make you mature a lot faster than other colleges. Its lack of a campus means you won’t be spoon-fed anything, and the city exposes you to a lot of unmatched professional opportunities. But its internal politics that prioritizes campus expansion and advertising over financially supporting its students caused a lot of resentment amongst the student body. Of course don’t let money limit your hopes and dreams, but at the same time do put a lot of consideration into it before committing.
