As a future NYU parent, I'd love to hear from current CAS students about the classes and professors you'd most recommend. Which classes changed your life? Which classes should one take before one graduates to really reap the best of NYU?

Personally, I found my freshman honors seminar to be most rewarding. I took Metapatterns across Space, Time, and Mind in the fall. The Professor was extremely knowledgable, had written a book about the subject, and is the lead singer and guitarist for the band called Amygdaloids (basically a merging of a group of scientists). What makes the seminars so enlightening is that many of the students who enroll in the courses are often bright and motivated. Additionally, it is a very small class setting (~10) and everyone is encouraged to voice an opinion. We talked about everything from the bucky-ball to Aristotle's cave, and we incorporated very intellectual conversation with a diversity of experiences and viewpoints. I highly recommend taking an honors seminar in a subject intriguing to you.

I second the freshman honors seminar. I took First Amendment: Freedom of Expression, which was a seminar in first amendment law (specifically speech and press) which was great.

Also, Politics and Islam in the MEIS department, taught by Bernard Haykel, was absolutely fascinating. It cemented my decision to take Middle Eastern studies as a second major.

Oh yeah I got something about a freshman seminar today....I was wondering what that was.

did anyone receive an application to the freshmen honors seminar? because all I've received so far was a information packet referring me to the NYU freshmen honors seminar website...I'll be out of the country from this Thursday-mid July and I REALLY want to apply to freshmen honors seminar, so please reply ASAP!
