A lot of people are curious about the differences- some were deferred from CAS to CGS. So who wants to explain?

I know that CGS is a two year school, and that after those two years CGS students can transfer to a different school at BU.

ya i was deferred to CGS and i dont really unerstand what it is

i think you get into general studies when you're considered a little beneath their standards but they still want you at the school. the two years are supposed to prepare you for the other, actual 4 year colleges.

Does that mean after CGS you still do 4 YEARS at the other college!? Or you start as a junior??

you start as a junior after the 2 yrs in cgs

u have 2 years of fulfilling CGS's liberal arts requirements, then you'll spend 2 years at the college of your choice and graduate with other 2011 students.

most colleges will require u to fulfill certain requirements like english, science, humanities, etc anyway. with CGS, you'll basically take all those courses in your first 2 years. with other schools, u may possibly spread them out over your 4 years. the only thing is that in CGS, u have less choice in what those courses are.

Go to the BU site and look at CGS. Like nathan says, it's a structured 2 year program and then you transfer into one of the other colleges.

Let say I was planning on transfering over to NYU, I would be taking all the courses that are required to trasnfer out, correct? But if I did end up at CGS and did not transfer, that means I would have 2 years of no business courses at all?

First, if you transferred to NYU, they would likely look at you for General Studies, which is their equivalent to CGS. Second, go to the CGS website. They have a core curriculum, which is pretty much what you'd find at many, many schools. You take that core and some electives - 2 or 3 - and after 2 years, you are halfway done with your required credits and you're in another college at BU.

It is possible to transfer out of CGS to NYU after one year though correct? I wouldn't have to wait the 2 years... Also, if I did transfer after 1 year, it makes sense that I wouldn't go into STERN right away but instead finish off the second year of general studies?

BU doesn't control where you go or what you do that's not at BU. You don't sign a contract promising you'll stay. That's up to NYU.
