Hi,

I am a NC resident and I was accepted to both UNC Chapel Hill and Case Western( With a big scholarship so that the price of the two schools are basically the same) and I can't decide between the two. I don't like Carolina because of the sports focus. There are few things I hate more than sports, one being cars, which the research triangle area has in abundance. I like that Chapel Hill has, of course, excellent academics, specifically it has good humanities. I am going to be an international studies major and I worry that Case doesn't have a very good program/department.
So any thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated.
Also, I don't like the social atmosphere at Carolina (visited twice) but I've never been to Case before. Are people social? I don't want to be in a place where everybody stays inside all the time and does nothing but study and play video games. **************.com makes Case seem really boring, but I have a feeling only disgruntled/unhappy people post there.

Thanks a lot for any help!

Case is pretty strong in the humanities. While engineering, nursing, and the science departments are larger and have a big focus on campus, the humanities and business majors/schools are smaller, so there is a lot of individual attention. As a psychology/sociology major myself, I have noticed that my classes are typically pretty small, 15-30 people (not including the large intro classes), and I have gotten to know my professors and advisers well. I think this is a huge advantage over a larger school which you might like!
At Case, you can be as social or not social as you would like. Of course there are people that stay in a lot of the time (like at any school), but you can always find parties or things to do, especially on the weekends. University Circle is home to all the museums in Cleveland (except the Rock Hall!) so there’s always cool stuff going on! The people who are unhappy are usually the ones who chose Case for the ranking, not the feel of the school, or who go there for free and had no say because their parent is an employee and are just… unhappy. Most people aren’t like that though- the people who choose to come here really want to!

Make sure you visit before making your choice!
