Case vs. Pitt

Hey...

Ignoring money, would you choose University of Pittsburgh's Honors College or Case?

I am going to major in biology most likely, though that may change.

How is the social life at Case? Is there stuff to do on campus (speakers, plays, special events) as an alternative to drinking?

Are the professor accessible and friendly? Are the students happy?

Thanks!

If momey is not an issue, I would pick Case just because it is a much smaller school and you get more attention. You also don't need to fight as hard to get internship/research opportunities.

I cannot comment on social life.

Case. I live in pgh and pitts campus is in oakland, near pgh. The campus at Pitt is like Penn, with a bunch of buildings spread out. Pgh is an okay town, most things to do in the city on the weekends is focused on 21+. Case has an excellant pre med and science, great internships, nice campus, and is a lot smaller than Pitt. The feel at Pitt is A LOT different than Case, because of the size, and is much more of a party school. Case's social life is less party oriented- if you want to party, you can, but its a lot less partying than Pitt. I got into Pitt and Case as well, but am definetly leaning toward case(even though its in cleveland).

I've visited my cousin in pitt, and I really think this depends on personal fit. Pitt reminded me more of ann arbor, or one of those bigger college towns. Case is more like a separated campus within a city.

I think there is plenty to do here at Case, as long as you actually go out and do it. As far as social events, a lot of it is very greek life oriented. Roughly 30% of Case is involved in a fraternity/sorority, so a lot of the social events naturally center around that aspect of campus. The Cleveland orchestra, which is world class, plays right in the center of campus. Case also has the footlighters, which is basically the theatre/play group on campus- just the other day they performed 'Chicago,' and I think (I don't claim ANY artistic knowledge) they were very good.

There are also a bunch of museums within a very short walking distance from campus- Museum of natural history, botanical gardens, automotive museum, art museum, and probably others that i'm not thinking of.

As far as actual partying, there really is a lot more of it than you might think. Most of my friends and I go to parties every weekend- I guess its inevitable when there are so many greek students relative to the entire student population.

Also regarding research/internships (I'm a biology major)- there really are ALOT of opportunites. Just today the Case Biology Society held a luncheon designed for students to meet bio professors and learn about their research/getting involved, etc..

when you say "Most of my friends and I go to parties every weekend- I guess its inevitable when there are so many greek students relative to the entire student population." do you mean that if you want to go to parties you need to be in a fraternity or sorority? Or can anyone find parties there?

Sorry I guess I should have clarified.

I'm actually not involved in greek life myself. But when there are so many greek students on campus, you're bound to have friends in a fraternity- and there's your connection.

So you don't need to be in a frat/sorority, just know someobdy who is.
