Case Western or U. of Pitt?

Hey...if you had to choose...

University of Pittsburgh Honors Program or Case Western Reserve University?

and why?

What program of study is this for?
Is money an issue between the two schools?
Are you more studious or looking for a lively social scene?

I know one of my friends who gave up going to upenn for pitt. I'm not exactly sure why....
but I pitt must have something serious to offer! It's got my vote.

I like U Pitt... just because I got in and I happen to love the campus. I really like that it is in the middle of Pittsburgh and the overall feel of the campus was great. Plus, I felt completely comfortable asking random people for directions, and everyone was really nice. I don't know much about Case Western other than it's in Ohio (haha... I think) and that I retracted my application once I figured out it was in the middle of the country. I'm a coast girl... grew up an hour from the beach. Another thing, the Honors College gives you a lot of opportunities (special classes, really cool teachers, smaller classes, more discussion, etc.) that regular classes don't. Plus, if you're into sports... well, that should be a huge factor! Geez... U Pitt... LOVE IT!!!

Depends on what you intend to study. Pitt is one the hottest schools in the nation, has a strong honors program and is very generous with merit awards. Did you receive a merit award from either school? Students seem to love Pitt. Parents that have visited recently also praise the University of Pittsburgh. Case Western Reserve is reported to have very poor social options. Again, it depends on your situation & on your likes and dislikes.

I apologize for not putting my stats up here..

I'd like to major in something science oriented (biology most likely).

I don't mind studying a lot, yet I do want a big part of my college experience to be social/cultural education as well. I don't drink, but I love big parties where I can meet lots of people. I don't like going to clubbing. It's true that I'm sort of a dork but I'm also pretty outgoing and not afraid to be myself and meet new people.

Small class sizes is a plus as well. I would like a lot of individual attention instead of just being a number. (I go to one of the largest high schools in ohio, though, so I'm not too too scared of big numbers)

And money is not going to be an option...I'm going to go where I want despite how much money they give me, though I'm not rich so the $10,000 merit scholarship to Pitt is pretty enticing.

You mentioned that money is not an issue, but the merit aid could make a significant difference down the road if you plan on going to any kind of graduate school. Like icy9, I've heard nothing but positive feedback about Pitt from students and parents. I don't know what kind of setting Case's campus is in, but Pitt's located right in the city. I visited Pitt a couple of years ago and was very impressed with the campus, the surrounding area (lots of cultural resources in Pittsburgh) and the students (including several in the Honors program)that I met. It's a state-affiliated university and, while you might run into some large Intro-level classes, the Honors program should limit the chances of that occurring. So, yes, I would recommend Pitt. Hopefully, you've already(or will do so very soon) visited both schools and get a sense of each campus and its respective culture. Wherever you end up going, good luck! :)
