@missinquisitive Does your last name begin with a letter early in the alphabet? I’m still waiting for mine and my last name begins with an R.
D was accepted yesterday with a $28,000 merit award- 3.9 GPA UW/4.6W, SAT 1560/1600, 2280/2400, National Merit Semi Finalist and National Hispanic Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor, and good extra curriculars. They were very sweet and mentioned her interests in the letter. Showed lots of interest.
Does anybody know if you have to keep a certain GPA to keep your scholarship? All I can find on the site is this: http://bulletin.case.edu/bulletinarchives/2013-14/undergraduatestudies/scholarshipretention/#studentsmatriculatingin2011text which doesn’t seem to have any specific GPA requirements. Also, if your GPA is satisfactory for renewal of your scholarship, is it guaranteed to stay at the same amount?
I did not get an email and there are no changes to my status check page either so I’m beginning to worry. All it says tis that all necessary documents have been received.
@musicianforlife haha well I actually never got an email or anything, i just did some hardcore detective work on case westerns website and from this url: https://login.case.edu/cas/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fblackboard.case.edu%2Fwebapps%2Fbb-auth-provider-cas-bb_bb60%2Fexecute%2FcasLogin%3Fcmd%3Dlogin%26authProviderId%3D_162_1%26redirectUrl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fblackboard.case.edu%252Fwebapps%252Fportal%252Fexecute%252FdefaultTab%26sessionIdForLogout%3DFA79DC526F8D4C9FFC2F4E17CA21E2F9** I got my Case Western network ID and then to get my PIN to activate the network ID, I called the tech support number (they’re open 24/7) and they emailed me my PIN number so that I was able to activate my network ID account and reset my password. Then I went to this URL: *https://go.case.edu/apply/status and entered in my network ID and password etc, and from there you should be able to see your decision!
@WellCraft77 that’s strange… our stats our eerily similar: I have a 36 ACT, 800 on math 2, 4.7 weighted GPA, many extracurriculars and sports, no interview, no visit to campus, albeit a research internship in my intended major of engineering… maybe because I’m a girl interested in STEM?
I’m sure he’ll get in regular though, if he follows up and emails case western’s admissions.
@holayola I am still in the same position as you.
@musicpen I’ve already set up my ID and everything back when they had emailed me a while ago. I guess I’ll have to wait for them to respond to my email. Congrats on getting in/your scholarship though!
@Musicianforlife thanks! and wait, they haven’t posted your decision on the portal?? that’s super strange. good luck though!
Sounds like those who are accepted get a personalized message - which is nice. DD was deferred and the portal message is very basic, but didn’t mention financial aid as a reason, which some apparently got, but rather that they wanted to see her senior year grades (she has a 3.7 UW GPA but has taken only APs and honor classes so weighted average is 4.0). She had sent in her first term grades and unweighted was 4.0 (all A’s and A+), plus had visited the school and connected with personal emails to her admissions counselor at CWRU. Her ACT score was a bit low at 30 so that might be part of why she was deferred, but we live in Massachusetts where CWRU seems to be almost completely unknown and we thought that would be something in her favor as well. So not sure what else she can do to get accepted in regular admission. Any thoughts? Does anyone know if people who get deferred EA but accepted regular admission ever get scholarship money? Some schools do but no idea about CWRU. Thanks and congrats to everyone admitted.
@holayola I’m in the same boat. I’m getting very worried/annoyed about their lack of communication with me. I read that some people got emails from Case saying they would release decisions on Saturday. I never got one of those emails. I actually haven’t gotten an email from Case since November 18, yet they used to send me recruiting emails every 3-4 days. I am sure I applied EA, and I’m just really upset I haven’t gotten anything yet. It’s been over 24 hours since they started releasing decisions; they can’t have so many to send out that it takes over 24 hours.
My S was deferred. He and I made a 2,000 trip to visit, tour, and S interviewed this summer. Had a 3.96 UW and 4.12 W GPA/32 ACT and decent ECs/awards with SAT IIs of Physics: 720, Biology-M 740 and Literature-710 along with 10 APs. Class rank: 8/355. I am surprised and saddened as this was one of his top 2 choices.
I got deferred as well.
I don’t believe personally visiting the school benefits an application at all, though, since there are plenty of people who got accepted and did not take a personal visit to the school.
Although my test scores were around Case Western’s norm, I believe my grades proved to be the reason as to why I got deferred.
It sounds to me like they take the Common App essay pretty seriously at Case. Especially since they left all of the accepted students personalized PS’s about their essay
For those of you who were deferred (and especially those for whom CWRU is a top choice), I think I would reiterate sincere interest in the University, make sure mid-year grades are as strong as possible and send any updates (awards, new accomplishments, etc.). I know that in years past waitlisted candidates were often able to get in if they indicated they would attend if accepted. I know deferment is not the same thing as a waitlist but all is not yet lost. Also, I heard that CWRU had a tremendous increase in early applications this year (does anyone have confirmation on exact numbers?) and perhaps they are just waiting to see what the RD pool overall looks like before accepting too many in the EA round?
On another note, does anyone know when/how tentative financial aid (i.e. need-based) awards will be communicated?
There was a link in the notification with preliminary information. Much has to wait for the FAFSA, after Jan 1
I just checked the portal and there was no information under financial aid. It also indicates that the CSS profile was received/logged in on 11/16 although we sent the profile toCWRU a month ahead of that. Grrr. Looks like I will have to follow up with the Financial Aid office.
@musicpen For the main scholarships, Full-Tuition (Andrew Squire, Albert W. Smith, Adelbert Alumni, Alexander Treuhaft, and Warren E. Rupp), University, Michelson-Morley STEM, and Bolton Scholarships, the GPA-related policy is “maintaining good academic standing.” Good academic standing is described here - http://bulletin.case.edu/undergraduatestudies/academicstgregs/
Assuming in good standing (academic/disciplinary) , in general, the scholarships are for 8 semesters. Additional details regarding duration/relationship to academic standing/leave of absences, etc. are described on the page you referenced.
Per the scholarship page you referenced, your offer may include scholarships not listed above. If so, your scholarship letter will describe its policies.
@blue37 Me too. Is it possible that those who are rejected don’t get any notifications? Its terrible not knowing where you stand. My portal shows no changes and I haven’t received any emails regarding the decision.
@bigred93 @WellCraft77 I think you will both have an excellent chance to get admitted if you followup with Case and let them know that you are serious about attending.
@holayola @musicianforlife If you had no response, I would reach out to them this week and let them know.
guys so I emailed them and i chose to apply to ppsp, so apparently if u applied to that and ea, u’ll only get ur decision by february
