WARNING TO ALL HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS PICKING COLLEGES: I am a rising junior at Case Western Reserve University. Do NOT come here if you are planning on majoring in computer science. You will not get the classes you need and outside a couple of professors, the faculty is focused on their research. The administration is focused on image and money. The tuition rises every year but the faculty stays the same. Go somewhere else for school.
@spittinfire Wondering why you posted this in the WashU forum? Also, can you be more specific about what you dislike regarding Case. Have you tried to address any of your concerns with any of the CS student groups or the department chair? Asking because my son is considering CS at Case.
I meant to post in the Case Forum. My apologies. I have spoken with professors, deans, and no one has been helpful. The department is letting in more and more CS majors, but not increasing class sizes or hiring more professors. Case has a great set of courses and great level of respect in the field, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t take any of the right classes. Is your son considering any other schools?
@spittinfire That’s an interesting prospective that you bring up. Do other students feel that way?
I am seriously considering majoring in CS/math and am in-state for Case Western Reserve. What other schools in Ohio do you suggest for computer science?
How about Computer Engineering at Case vs. Computer Science?
Have other Case CS majors had experiences like the original poster? My son is considering Case for computer science, so this is good information to have. So many computer science programs across the country are heavily impacted these days, but I hadn’t heard of Case having problems until now. It would be helpful to know if this was an isolated event or the norm.
