Case Western Reserve vs. University of Rochester vs. UIUC

Okay after everything these are my top choices of the schools I got into. I know for a fact that I want to go to medical school (so I'm premed), but I really don't know what I want to major in... will decide when I'm in college. The prices after financial aid all come down to almost the same, so cost is not really a factor.

Okay when I say that I want to go to medical school, I mean that I want to get accepted to a medical school that people may have actually heard, not just any, so basically a prestigious medical. (please don't judge me because of this, this is just how I feel).

I am willing to devote hard work into reaching my goal. So between these three please give me your thoughts and feelings

I have visited Case and UIUC and I loved both of them and I have noticed from all the colleges that I visit that I always like them so I'm sure I'm going to like Rochester when I visit two weeks from now.

Other schools I got into are, UPitts, St. Olaf, Knox, UIC, Marquette and I got waitlisted at Carleton, RPI, and Lafayette. comment on these too, assuming that I do get in evenctually.

And another thing, I received a grant of $3000 from Rochester for research if I do enroll.

I liked, applied, and got into Rochester and Case.

I personally was leaning toward Case, but a good part of that was I had a best friend there already. I think Case is stronger prep in engineering, equal in the non-applied sciences, below on social sciences and humanities. Rochester does have a semi-open curriculum, which you can imagine attracted me, but SAGES at Case is pretty interesting. My friend who went the year before SAGES heard some pretty bad things about how that was initially implemented and was really turned off by that, but they may have fixed things with SAGES since. University Circle (I think that’s hte name of the area) around Case is much nicer than the area around Rochester. To be honest, I don’t really remember being able to walk to anywhere from Rochester’s campus, but that could be 4-5 year old memory failing me. Both schools have excellent music near by.

Cleveland Clinic and Case’s other medical school are both huge resources for premeds. My friend who was at Case is now doing his MD/PhD and MCW and had the opportunity to shadow a surgeon at Case, work for a medical research team, and do basic science research with a biochem professor all of which helped him a lot.

Case has GREAT housing too.

I would have gone to Case myself, but others would definitely go the other direction. Case students are a bit more classically geeky, but not much.

If you are from Chicago, then UIUC would be in state tuition right? I do not think Case or Rochester are worth the extra cost. UIUC is a great place and the faculty is stellar. The students also tend to not really appreciate the opportunities there nor do they realize what a great springboard UIUC can be, IF you make it that way. Thus, you might have less competition for better grades, YET still be able to work with great faculty members.

I would opt for UIUC is it is significantly less.

thanks for the replies guys. I would love to see more opinions here too so help out. For vociferous, the cost for all the colleges after financial aid is the same for me, so cost does not really make a different.
