Catholics at Haverford?

Hi,

My D LOVED her visit to Haverford this past week. (She also loved Swarthmore.) One question: what about folks who want to attend church services? Is there a religious (non-Quaker) presence on campus?? We are especially wondering about whether a practicing Catholic could find a home at HC. Any insights welcome. Thanks!

I am happy to hear that your D enjoyed her visit! Haverford is a very diverse community in which almost everyone can find a niche. I can’t tell you much about Catholic life on campus myself, but the web presence of the Catholic Campus Ministry has the contact information of a few students who’ll be delighted to hear from your D!

B@r!um,

Thank you for the info. Very useful. I asked the same question about Swarthmore. It appears that Haverford and Swarthmore have a great deal of overlap, and the Newman Center is one area where the two schools will likely mingle. Sounds good. Now let’s see if D actually darkens the door of a church once she gets to college! :)

Son just sent his Haverford acceptance today. Can’t say what he plans for college, but up to now he has attended mass every week.

In addition to the on-campus ministry, there is also St. Colman’s Church about a 10 min walk from campus across from Suburban Square. Some of my good friends use to go there for services. It was a nice way for them to get off campus and interact with other young people in the area not from HC, such as students from Villanova who live off-campus.
