Does anyone have any thoughts about Cazenove? Small? Bright? Clean? Strong community?

Does the fact that it's right in the entrance have any impact?

Steep hills? Convenient?

What about the bathrooms? Are they nice or scary?

Thanks!

Never lived in Caz. It's the dorm for people who are allergic for peanuts and features a nut free dining hall. The hill up to the quad can be annoying, but I imagine people get used to it pretty quickly.
My own personal stereotype of the quad dorms was that they aren't as nice, but they have a higher concentration of first year students, which means a stronger community, though perhaps more drama.

I'm living in Beebe next year, which is next to (although not connected to) Caz. From what I've seen of Beebe, I think the bathrooms in the Quad are...not great. Definitely anticipating a pretty big downgrade from the New Dorms in that department :( . Rooms in the Quad also aren't particularly generously sized. That said, I did choose to live in Beebe, and I am happy to be moving to a more centralized location on campus. Also, almost everything at Wellesley is built on a hill, so I don't find the Quad particularly notable in that department. Caz is actually the only dining hall on campus that I haven't eaten at yet, but as WendyMouse notes it is nut free. The nice thing about the Quad is that there are three dining halls (Beebe is basically regular food (I think they call it the wellness dining hall, but I don't think that plays a huge role in the food there), Caz is nut free, and Pom is kosher/vegetarian), so your chances of finding decent food are increased. I'm also happy to be moving into a more picturesque dorm, but that may just be me being the overly romantic daughter of an Architect.

I honestly don't think that there are any bad dorms at Wellesley; they all have pros and cons. Just don't pack too much stuff, because the room won't be big by anyone's measure.

I've lived in Cazenove for the past two years and will be returning for a third year (by choice) this fall. As a first year, you'll be roomed in a pretty small double in Cazenove, but definitely not ridiculously small. The rooms are actually pretty nice: wooden floors & walk in closets and enough room to leave the beds unbunked. I met most of my closest friends from first year in my hall and there were often spontaneous hours-long chatting sessions in the hall, which were always fun. It's nice having a cafeteria in the dorm, and the food in Cazenove, while certainly not 5-star restaurant quality, is pretty good. Rooms have either a view of the inside of the quad (which is nice, but loud on weekend evenings), or face out toward the road/parking lot, which isn't as pretty, but is actually a little quieter. I LOVE the location of Cazenove (and all the quad for that matter). It's right by the campus center, which is particularly convenient when picking up large packages, it's also close to the sports center, which makes working out a little less cumbersome, and is pretty close to most of the academic buildings. Whether your classes are in the science center or the academic quad, your walk won't be too far. It's also relatively close to the main library. Being in the quad is fantastic - particularly first year.

Does anyone have any thoughts about Cazenove? Small? Bright? Clean? Strong community?
Most of rooms in Caz have terrible lighting - so bring a lamp! Cazenove is a medium sized dorm and usually has a pretty strong community, as do most dorms in the quad. It's clean (most of the time), but it's age definitely does show.

Does the fact that it's right in the entrance have any impact?
Not really.

Steep hills? Convenient?
There's a hill to get up to the quad, but it's not too steep. As noted previously, its location is, for the most part, very convenient.

What about the bathrooms? Are they nice or scary?
Ehhh...the bathrooms are okay. Not luxurious and definitely a switch from having my own bathroom at home, but they are certainly manageable.

Hi, I am casting around for some info that may help my daughter process the news that she will be in a Tower Court West Quad room on 2nd floor. Any idea how that works? How does one manage to get any sleep/privacy? Thanks!

Tower court is THE BEST!! Bigger rooms than most freshman get. I loved visiting my friends in tower, each dorm seemed to have nice community. Privacy is not hard to find at Wellesley, in my opinion. My roommate was only in one club, and I was in several, but we both had time alone to ourselves in the room, and the common rooms weren't very busy. Admittedly, I was in Shafer, but I can't imagine it's very different in Tower. As someone who likes their alone time, you can always close the door to indicate you don't want company, otherwise when they see the open door people will drop by. No need to lock it though, in my opinion. It seems most people get used to the noise of living in a crowded dorm quickly, after the first week you learn to sleep through...almost anything. I was on a fairly quiet hall, but I would say that there are far fewer ridiculously drunk people out and about at 2 am than there are at other schools. Certainly during the school week, it was always quiet by midnight.
