CBYX 2015-16

@evan241 thanks!! I know that FLAG said normally 10 or more alternates get to end up going to Germany. So, hopefully I’m one of the top 10 on the list of the 20 alternates

@evan241 oh really? Wow! Congrats!!!

@linzyh yeah, keep your head up :slight_smile: I already know of a couple people who dropped out.

Does anyone know if I need a visa? Or is a passport all I need? I’m having trouble finding answers on the internet

You don’t need a Visa

Not unless you’re not a US Cetizen. If you are then yes, you’ll only need a passport

To be in the European Union for more than 90 days you need a visa. But I believe you obtain the visa once you are in Germany. So unless you get other information from your organization, all you need is a passport right now. Getting a visa shouldn’t be terribly hard- Germans are certainly efficient- and because the program is partially sponsored by the Bundestag that should make it a little easier. @Heather29‌

Okay thanks everyone :slight_smile:

Seems like I’m late to the party. I’m a finalist for CBYX with AFS. Is there a Facebook group for the upcoming year AFS CBYX scholarship recipients?

@Sophia23411 My name is Julia, and I am also a YFU recipient for CBYX! I also know the two other girls from my state who got it…I don’t think there’s a Facebook group for YFU or CBYX but I would love to make one for us if you guys would like one as well! Which pre-departure orientation are you going to?

@V0yageurduM0nde yes! its called AFS-CBYX 2015-2016

@JNG7724 Hey Julia! That sounds awesome, I’m in. Let me know once you have it up and I’ll let the other recipients in my state know :slight_smile:

There are actually groups for both. Don’t bother with the YFU one, it’s like 5 people. But there is one called like 2015-2016 CBYX hopefuls

I’ve requested to join the Hopefuls and CBYX CIEE Finalists but haven’t been accepted yet. I guess I’ll just use this until then! Which pre-departure orientation is everyone going to? And I don’t think I’ll be going to the pre-departure one in DC they’re offering. D:

@JNG7724 I’ll add you to the CIEE group if someone else hasn’t already. It was my understanding that the pre-departure orientation is required and is like the beginning of the experience, but I could’ve missed something.

Oh thanks! I still haven’t gotten an acceptance for the group though. They have a mandatory pre-departure orientation at different locations around the States. Howvever, they also are having an additional orientation in DC this year, but I don’t think I’ll be going. @petitlion
