CC-->CalTech

Does CalTech accept students from community colleges. I screwed up in HS and would up with a poor GPA. However, in between junior and senior year I was able to teach myself everything up to Calculus II and have a 4.0 GPA at my current CC and am taking the most difficult courses I can take and taking the most credits the CC allows. All straight A's.

My HS record is just not very good and I feel that CalTech will just chuck my file in the garbage if I send it in. I'm a very intelligent individual but besides being able to teach myself a very hard subject (Calc II all by myself), I really do not have much to back up my claims which I think is going to kill me. I plan on going to med school and I know I can go pretty much anywhere for that but I have my eyes set on CalTech and MIT. Is there no hope at all?

Read it and weep

I’ve heard of people from CC transferring into Caltech. I’m not sure about their backgrounds though.

One of my labmates went to a CC for a year or two and then transferred in to Caltech. He’s now a fourth year grad student here, as well.

Dunno his story as to why he went to CC or whatnot, but I know he did really well in his undergrad classes.

Very often financial reasons, I think.

I’ve transferred from a CC to Caltech, so it is possible…
Let me know if you have any specific questions.
