CC Class of '09 Stats-any under 1500s?

Hi, everyone,-my son was thrilled to be accepted ED to CC in December-but reading some of the admitted (and rejected) students' "stats", we're beginning to wonder HOW he got in-white male from intense arts/academic school (public) in NYC, SAT I 1450 (750 V, 700M), SAT IIs: 720 (Writing), 710 (World History), and 610 (Math IIC). GPA on a 100-point scale: 93.73 (unweighted), 94.58 (weighted), class rank 5/158 (unweighted). Took all AP courses offered by school, plus physics, plus each term had 3 intense arts classes, performance and technical, in his studio major (Drama) in addition to academics, during a 7 hour school day. He had strong recommendations, a very good CU interview, a powerful and somewhat unique? (he used 2 four letter words while describing his thoughts during a car crash) essay, pretty good answers to short quetsions on app, and strong ECs-founder/editor-in-chief of Lit Mag, School Leadership Team for 4 years, Student Council rep, Day of Silence Coordinator, etc. etc., a couple of unique, and several not so unique, awards; plus tons of theatre (acting and technical) in and outside of school, and community service through the arts as well as other community service (many, many hours). Still....when we see posted stats of even rejected students, it's hard to understnd how he got in with the intense competition he was up against. Are there any acceptees out there who scored lower than 1500 on the SAT I?

columbiamom2, you can relax about this matter.

The average SAT score for Columbia College is actually shifts from 1370 to 1470 and from 1400-1490 in SEAS. These statistics, however, change from year to year, with +/- 20~30 points of difference.

....1310....

Oh yeah, lots. Be proud of his accomplishments. The difference between a 1450 and a 1550 is minimal.

got in with 1480. I think once above 1400 or so, SATs cease to be such a big factor in the ultra-competitive schools.

I think that I am going to apply for columbia ED, but I am am not sure whether I will get in or not. I don't think that the scores for the SAT will be a problem, I should be able to get around 1800's, but I don't have many extra curricular activities. I have about 7 activities. Are extra curricular activities very important?

1430, here

Don't be surprised if the 1800s keep you out. That's low. The above information is based on the old SAT without writing. We had to take the writing SAT II, but now they're merged. You should aim for 2300.

It depends what your activities are. I have about. . . 3. And it's the same thing three times, too. But it didn't keep me out. In fact, it probably helped get me in. There are some others I have, but they're just the same old.

nice name bloated fetus!! I think a lot of people really underestimate the comedic value of the word "fetus" these days.

thanks lol

First of all,I think on the app they only give you @ 7 or 8 spaces for ecs, and they don't want you to send attachments-I'd say 7 is fine, depending on what they are, and what you DID in them, e.g. leadership positions, special achievements, founder, etc. CU seems to look for passion, creativity, and ongoing dedication in one or two areas that set you apart a bit and seem congruent with the rest of your app.....

does any1 noe wat the social life is like in columbia?

Columbiamom, it's so weird that you know your son's "stats" in such detail. My mom probably doesn't know what I got on my SAT. What are you doing on this site anyway, given that your son has already been accepted to a school he'd like to attend? What do you care how many people scored < 1500 on their SAT? For some reason, I find it very sad that some parents are more active (to the point of being obsessed) in this process than the students themselves.

oh chill out prc618

A white, upper-middle class, male friend of mine was accepted ED for the class of 2008 with a mere 1360. He and I had nearly identical ECs and very similar stats otherwise as well (I didn't go the ivy route). These things do happen!

1410, 2100 including writing satII

Congratulations on your acceptance, and best wishes!
