CC or UC? Help!

Well, the problem here is that I got accepted to UCD and UCSC, but I am thinking of attending CC first, which is going to be ELAC and then transfer to a UC. However, I don't know if I'm going to do the right thing, because as you all know 4 year schools are a little expensive and UCD or UCSC are far from L.A, so I will spend an extra amount of money to go there and come back to L.A. I 'm afraid that if I decide to go to cc, in the future I might not get into a UC again, and I really want to go to a UC. Please help me decide, I'm running out of time, the deadline to submit my offer of admission is May, 1. Thank you guys!!

You may want to check whether your local CCs have good coverage of the lower division courses for your major (which is?) for your various target UCs and CSUs.

If they do not, then you would have to cram several lower division courses into your junior year after transfer, perhaps delaying graduation or crowding out schedule space that you could have used for upper division courses had you started at the four year school initially.

Use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to check the course articulation between your local CCs and your target UCs and CSUs.

What kind of net cost and debt would you be looking at for each option?

I would only go the CC route these days if it’s strictly a financial issue and you can’t afford a full term at UC.
CC’s have been really hit with budget cuts reducing courses…hopefully that starts to turn around with Prop 30 passing. You need patience, flexibility in schedule and discipline to be successful going the CC route.

If you can afford it, I would choose Davis or Santa Cruz and not worry about transferring. Enjoy the time at your selected UC.
