Hi. Theres a lot of information out there on what a student needs to get into an ivy or other top college as a freshman, but not much info out there on what somebody needs to do to get into an ivy/top college from a community college. What kind of classes, extracurriculurs etc. are required?

Please look again. Also, there is a tranfer students forum. Look there.

Each college that takes in transfers has clear guidelines on what viable candidates look like. Generally, you need to be an excellent scholar – the sort that probably garnered one or more acceptances from very selective schools as a HS senior. Does this describe you?

Also you need to have a compelling reason why that target school is for you and what you can contribute there.

But why are you inquiring about this? I just checked and you’ve not started your 12th grade. You should apply as a Freshman to a wide selection of colleges. Very few people ever transfer into Ivies. That should not be on your mind at this point.

If you already know the CC that you would be attending, make an appointment with the Transfer Advisor there, so that you can talk about the best plan for your education.

@T26E4, my situation is different from typical high school students in the US. I am an American citizen, i went to school in New York up until 9th grade. Then my family abruptly moved abroad. Im doing O Level (a UK curriculum). I can either go to 12th grade or directly to a community college in New York, and im trying to figure out what is the better option. I want to get a full ride to a top college since my parents don’t have the money to pay for my education. My parents are pressuring me to go to CC too so I dont “waste a year.” I want to go to wherever gives me a better chance at the top colleges. If you can help or know anybody who can help i’d appreciate it greatly. Im 17 years old, I have no teacher reccommendations(can i get them in a single year if i go to 12th grade high school?), i havent given SAT or SAT 2(im planning to give them during september or November this year). If i go to 12th grade i also want to give a few AP exams privately. Id appreciate anybody who can help.
