Just wondering why is Tulane on the list of CC Top Universities while higher ranked schools, such as the Univ of Southern California, are not listed there?
There seems to be some kind of innate snobbery based on “pedigree” and institutional memory imo
What it seems to me - is that colleges that used to be seen mainly as alternatives for rich kids still tend to get looked down on here on CC despite the big advances up the rankings tables they’ve made over the past couple of decades, and as you point out despite them overtaking some more “venerable” old institutions on a systematic basis
What is interesting is that some of them have some other fascinating stories and different types of pedigrees (like NYU in the early 20th century taking on women and black students whom Columbia & Barnard had refused admission because quotas had been reached; wouldn’t be surprised to find something similar about USC)
