I apologize in advance for my broken English as it is not my first language(I am a US citizen and not an international applicant). long story short, I didn’t do well in high school(mostly due to language barriers but also lack of motivation etc) and decided to attend a local community college after graduating. Now I’m at my second year of college ready to transfer at 2019 fall. My major is computer science and I do have a 4.0 and some extracurriculars. I’m applying to all the UCs, USC, maybe Stanford(with no expectation what so ever) and just started looking into CMU.
Statistically, the admission rate at CMU(72/901 8%) does look a lot more approachable compared to other top-tier private schools like Stanford(33/1663 2%). However, I am aware that I’m transferring from a two-year college and not a four-year college to one of the most competitive majors in CMU.
I guess my question is: Is applying to CMU as a California community college transfer basically the equivalent of a 70 dollars rejection letter(like Stanford) or is it challenging but actually doable (kinda like UCLA/Berkeley)?
You don’t provide enough information for anyone to provide anything useful to you. Do you have scores from standardized tests? Accomplishments?
Accomplishments wise not many other than a few programming contests and a hackathon at Harvard. I’m also doing independent studies with my professor next semester for real analysis and algorithm if it counts. For standardized tests, I got a 28 for ACT in high school(heavily skewed, like 35 for math and 18 for reading). I don’t need standardized tests for any other college so I never retake it after high school. How important is it for transfer admission and should I take it again?
