I guess some people are starting to second guess top schools.

lol...........not everyone is.

I think "prestige whores", on a whole, are very insecure people.

The message they're giving is basically:

"I killed myself all through high school to go to a top school. I want to get a good job, and I simply can't succeed without going to a top school. Other people do, but I can't."

Confident people know their skills, they know their worth. Thus, they can focus on applying to schools that will make them happy. They work hard at their schools of choice, and go out and get the jobs they want without having to hide behind the facade of a big name.

(In the end, the Ivies may end up being the schools they like best, but the diffence is that they aren't relying on the name...)

A lot of people (certainly not all) go to an Ivy or another highly ranked school simply because of its prestige. That's a worrying sign of insecurity that the above comment describes. The only Ivy League school I'd go to is Brown. As for the rest of them, never.

^And that's how we can tell the difference, I think. Normal people can like the Ivies best (Brown and Columbia ftw! :)), but prestige whores apply to all Ivies and only Ivies, and then go on about how you're only a worthwhile person if you get in...
