CCM MT Removes "Cut Program"

CCM Musical Theater has removed the "cut system" from its curriculum. Effective immediately!

broadwayceleb23, can you tell us your source on this, please? Also, please let us know exactly what you mean by the "cut system." There has been substantial discussion on this list and elsewhere about the policy at CCM, and some contend that they don't have a so-called "cut system" in that they don't accept more students than they expect to graduate, but that when some students don't pass juries/evals, etc. (or show potential for professional growth), those students are "cut" loose. Please clarify for those who read this board. I am sure people would be very interested in this.

Source is from a current student at CCM and will be available on the website soon. To clarify, receiving a grade of "Fail" in your Performance Examinations will no longer result in dismissal from the program. You are now guaranteed all 4 years of training at CCM with 2 Performance Examinations every year leading up to your Senior Year and receiving a grade of "Fail" will result in being taken out of the casting pool for the upcoming quarter but the so called "cut program" is officially removed. Again, this information will be available on the CCM Musical Theater website in the near future.

Thanks. I am sure people will look forward to having "official" word of this.

If true, I'm glad to hear it as it makes for more sound educational practice.

While there is no dirth of applicants for CCM, I do have to wonder if they have come to realize that they do lose out on a significant number of very talented students who will not apply to CCM due to this policy and atmosphere and that this change is beneficial not just to the students but to the program itself.

This seems consistent with what the parents who just dropped their kids off at CCM were told. . .although it was not expressed in these exact words.

Indeed, it WAS said that you may FAIL your "boards" but NOT get dismissed from the program. Rather, there would be a plan put into place to help you make progress. However, missing class, coming unprepared, being late, etc. might result in being dismissed from the program.

Note that I was paying most attention to the info related to the drama program; however, I believe the comments applied to ALL of CCM's programs.
