CCS application

Hello!

My S wants to apply to CCS for Computing. They require letters of rec for that:

“Please list at least two persons well-acquainted with your academic background and your ability in Computing.”

Does anyone know if it’s ok that his recommenders (teachers) are only familiar with his “academic background” and not “computing background”?

The problem is that his last school-related computing experience was in 10th grade (APCS) and the teacher since left, moreover, most of his CS-related activities were on his own or with his father. His dad can write whatever recommendation is needed but I am not sure it will look good on the application.

Any advice?

Thanks!

The folks at CCS are said to be pretty approachable. It really is different from the big-scale UC application process. They want to get to know you to pick the right kind of kids for the program, and you to get to know them to see if CCS is really right.

Which is all a roundabout way of saying give them a call and ask…

Thank you!

It’s nice to hear that at least somewhere there are approachable people in the admissions

I’ll tell S he can call them.

Sounds good. Let us know what he finds out so that future kids searching the forum can find the info.
