Hi all. I was admitted to UCLA and was offered the opportunity to become a part of the CEED (Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity) Program. I was mainly wondering how good of an opportunity this is.

Also, what benefits such as housing choices and class preference and choices would it offer me?

Thanks.

Hi and congratulations! My S is a current CEED freshman and quite frankly it was one of the main reasons he chose UCLA. Priority housing and enrollment is nice, but then again some other groups of students also get these so it's not as if you have "first pick," but it does help IMO. You also get guaranteed enrollment in orientation session #102 and an earlier move-in time in the fall, free tutoring, workshops, scholarship opportunities, and guidance. Above all, the best thing that you get from CEED is the opportunity to attend the summer bridge program to get a feel for what classes will be like once you start in the fall, and to get better acquainted with fellow CEED students. In a large university like UCLA, the CEED program can really help you in that you belong to a smaller community from day one, which can make it a little easier to start off in a brand new place where you don't know many other people. My S has made some good friendships with fellow CEED students. I think it's a great opportunity :)

UndecidedMom: Thank you :) It sounds like a wonderful opportunity from what I've heard and researched. I have since decided to matriculate (good vocab huh? lol) at UCLA. Go Bruins lol. Thanks again.

Good for you and good luck!

I was invited to join CEED and I am not a minority, other than being a female in Engineering. Does that qualify or did they make a mistake?
