Cell Phone Plan

To students at Cornell right now -
do most people have verizon or cingular?
which provides more service in Ithaca?

My contract for cingular expires soon, so i was wondering if i should renew it or switch over to verizon.

Thanks!

My friends have either Verizon or AT&T/Cingular. Verizon has excellent coverage....I know nothing about AT&T.

Cingular/AT&T has good coverage.

what about t-mobile. i'm stuck in my contract till may 09

my roomie had a sprint phone...but it didn't work on West Campus so she got T-mobile....and it worked in our dorm but not well on the rest of campus. But...I'm sure things have changed so I'm really not sure :-)

Verizon is excellent. I'd go with that or AT&T
Sprint is terrible as well as T-mobile.

Ranked in Order of Coverage/Clarity/Effectiveness on the Cornell Campus (especially North Campus)

Verizon - Works everywhere on campus, elevators included, there is also a Verizon tower on North, so you get 5 bars up there

Cingular/AT&T - Almost as good as Verizon. Works just as well as Verizon on Central and in Collegetown, but spotty coverage on North campus.

Sprint - A joke on North campus, but ok on Central and in collegetown

T-Mobile - Don't bother. Wayyy too spotty on the Cornell campus.

So basically, I'd recommend Verizon. Yes, they're unreasonably expensive, but after switching from T-mobile and Cingular plans (long story), I can't go back. I love the convenience of knowing I won't miss a call. Plus, since everyone on campus has it, you get free Verizon-to-Verizon calling. Also, if you sign up for the plan in the mall, I'm pretty sure you get a 19% discount off your monthly bill as a Cornell student

I would recommend Verizon as well. Works great.

okay so, i still am stuck in my t-mobile plan. what do you recommend. paying for two phones? or just paying the early termination fee to t-mobile so I can switch to a provider with better service?

well...if you plan to visit cornell anytime soon you can check out reception while you're on campus

true, but all my money is being saved to actually pay for school, so visiting is not an option unless someone decides to give us a couple hundred bucks

haha....nothing is free when it comes to Cornell....except tuition if your parents make under 75K
