cell phone

i heard that cingular or verizon works the best..is that true? is one better than the other? any thoughts on cell phone related things?:p

yeah i hear VZW is best

I hope all my friends stick to Verizon too... Free minutes when you're talking with other Verizon users right? (I can never keep up with these offers :p)

I <3 Cingular (I'm not in Ithaca...just throwing it out there that I <3 Cingular)

Usually one or two providers offer special discounts to your school. Ask around to find which one offers such sweetness.

VZW has discounts for Cornell employees but I'm not sure about students.

I have Cingular (originally AT&T), but when I visited campus my signal was patchy at best, with 0 bars most of the times i checked. My tour guide said that Verizon prolly works best.

Anyone know anything about those VZW discounts for Cornell students? :D

yes thats right cornellhotelie, and with VZW having the best service, most students will have verizon, so most of your calls will be free

if you know me, you know technology / telecom. etc is not in my department. my parents got me a cell phone this year. I have Cingular (originally AT&T), but when I never visited cornell campus (i'm cheap and don't want to waste the time as someone suggested). SO i will take robinage's word on it that Cingular , AT&T e tc don't work too well for Cornell. My concern is , how difficult is it to switch cell phone services? When my mom signed on with AT&T or cingular whatever, she got free cell phones. Will I be able to use the same cell phone with Verizon service? or will Verizon give me a super cool, free cell phone like promo and thanking me joining their service ? I'd have asked my mon or stepdad and not bothering you guys but they are on a business trip.

You will not be able to use the same phone. Cingular is a GSM network and Verizon is a CDMA. Don't ask, I can't explain it, they're just different, kind of like trying to run a mac program on a PC...

Verizon will give you a supercool new phone when you sign up. I hope you're not on a long contract with Cingular or you will have to pay a cancellation fee. Or you can just wait until it runs out and then switch. Contracts are usually 1 year.
